Soy lectora desde mi infancia este es uno de los libros que más me gustaron cuando era niña. Algo hay en Alegre que me conmovió siempre, es un libro que toca el alma. Lo he releído de adulta y sigue gustándome tanto como antes.

Alegre es comprado por el director italiano de un circo ambulante para trabajar, por su personalidad y su sonrisa lo obligan a ser payaso y es tan bueno que el director comienza a ganar mucho. Lejos de su familia y en esas condiciones, sus sentimientos contrastan con su personalidad. Además sufre maltrato de su dueño. Las aventuras de este pobre niño esclavo tocan el alma de cualquiera y nos recuerdan el infame tema de la esclavitud, que es presentado con crudeza y verosimilitud.
Alegre is bought by the Italian director of a traveling circus to work. His personality and smile force him to be a clown, and he is so good that the director begins to earn a lot of money. Far from his family and in these conditions, his feelings contrast with his personality. He also suffers abuse from his owner.
