Finding My Balance Between Body and Mind

When it comes to health, I don’t think it’s fair to say one side is more important than the other. Some people say physical health comes first because without your body you can’t do much. Others believe mental health rules everything, because if the mind isn’t okay then the body can’t move forward. But from what I’ve noticed in my own life, both are important. No one needs to suffer for the other , both are important to me.

I remembered a time I was passing through a lot, my body was fine but my mind was just tired. I always do everything normal, I eat the way I used to, I moved around with my normal daily activities but deep down I know I wasn't feeling too well mentally and also there was some days my body will be weak and couldn't achieve simple things I will be down physically, going through all these made me know that I can never ignore any one of them both my mental and physical health.

So how do I strike a balance?

One of the things that helps me alot is listening to myself, I know when my body is working off point, both my body and mind have ways of speaking to me. For example, when I’m stressed mentally, I start getting headaches, I lose appetite, it always comes with anxiety as well, any small step in my house makes my heart beat fast and when I push my body too much, my thoughts get cloudy and I lose focus. I’ve learnt that if I ignore these signs, it only gets worse.

Another thing is building small routines that serve both. For the body, it might be eating properly and sleeping well. For the mind, it could be journaling, praying, or just taking quiet time without my phone buzzing in my ear. Those simple things help me more than I thought they would.

Rest is another lesson I learnt slowly. I used to cut down sleep because I thought it made me more productive. But I found out the opposite is true. I do not joke with my sleeping hour at all, I realized that when I rest properly, I wake up more stronger in my body and calmer in my mind.

And finally, I love to talk to people, I'm not someone who hide problem, I have a friend who always listen to me anytime I talk, she never judge me and profound solution to whatever problem or any burden that is weighing me down, so I love to talk to this friend anytime I'm down and this always free my mind. Talking to a trusted friend or even spending time with loved ones always brighten my mood. At the same time, being around people gets me physically active instead of staying locked up with heavy thoughts.

The truth is, balance is not about doing everything perfectly. It is about being aware and not ignore your body system, It is about choosing small daily steps that care for both sides. You need to eat well, rest enough, exercise your body when necessary, and take care of your thoughts, do not overstress your brain. No one is more important than the other.
