### The Cat of Yule: A Terrifying Legend from Iceland
It's Christmas and the family gathers around the tree to open their presents, everything is colorful and beautiful, but in Iceland, Christmas is different. **There, a huge cat wanders through the snow, looking for people, especially children who haven't worn new clothes, to devour them...**

Cuando la localiza, maúlla en tu puerta como un gatito en busca de ayuda. **Pero al abrir la puerta, eres devorado, ya que le fascina el sabor de la sangre humana.**
Aunque otras versiones dicen que solo se alimenta de la comida que pones en tu mesa.
***El Gato de Yule tiene la apariencia de un gato normal, pero es enorme, con ojos brillantes, garras afiladas y una cola fuerte.***
### 🎄Which creature or Christmas legend do you find the scariest?
**As a cat lover, I find the legend of Jólakötturinn, or the Cat of Yule, from Icelandic folklore the most terrifying**.
Legend has it that the cat seeks out those who have not received new clothes at Christmas. This feline watches from the windows to find its prey.
**When he locates it, he meows at your door like a kitten looking for help. But when you open the door, you are devoured, as it is fascinated by the taste of human blood.**
Although other versions say, it only feeds on the food you put on your table.
**The Yule Cat has the appearance of a normal cat, but is huge, with glowing eyes, sharp claws and a strong tail.**

### Origin
**In the 6th century, the planet experienced a long darkness known as the Dark Ages.**
At that time the most important task of Icelandic children, is to help adults make new clothes for the winter, **But if you were lazy and did not wear new clothes, you became the prey of the cat**.
Farmers used the legend to motivate their workers to finish processing the wool. If you were responsible, they gave you new clothes; but if you were lazy, they didn't give you any, and you were hunted by the cat.
**The legend began in 1932 with the book “Jólin koma” by Jóhannes úr Kötlum, where the poem “Jólakötturinn” (“The Cat of Yule”) appears.**
**Today,** the Yule Cat is present at festivities in Iceland and is found in some Christmas decorations.

**I would NOT survive an encounter with Yule's cat.** As a cat lover, when I leave my house and find one, I pet it, call it, talk to it.
**Imagine finding one of that size… I would certainly look for a way to get close enough to see it and pet it.**
