My Art Journey in Yabatech
Hello 👋 hivers my name is Okafor Favour Chinemerem, a Fine Art student at Yaba College of Technology.
I was inspired to study art by the world around me the works of artists, the beauty of nature, and the realities of my environment. Painting became my voice, a way to share ideas and emotions that words could not express.
My first day at Yabatech left a lasting impression: sculptures of different materials standing tall at the entrance of the Faculty of Art, mural paintings on the walls, I knew I had stepped into the right place.
The journey hasn’t been easy. Access to materials is a major challenge, both financially and physically. Yet, one of my proudest achievements has been seeing my own growth, from where I started to the artist I am becoming and to what I have became.
As an expressionist and impressionist, I love the freedom to create without limits. My lecturers, classmates, and environment constantly push me to improve, even as I struggle to balance creativity with academic rules. Improvisation keeps me moving.
I’ve faced self-doubt, even to the point of tears, but through faith, persistence, and belief in myself, I overcame it. Now, I want my art to speak to people’s hearts, not just as paintings, but as stories and emotions they can feel.
Looking ahead, I see my art reaching a global audience while still making an impact here at Yabatech. My advice to others is simple: believe in yourself, trust God, and keep working hard because work pays.
