Good evening Hiveworld and I hope your Saturday has been a great one. I started the day with a rare lie in as my son's football match wasn't until lunchtime. They lost but he played really well so I'm a proud dad. I'm proud of him anyway but especially when he performs like that.

The title image is an abstract version of him and was created with a Light Blaster which Paul from LACE made for me using his 3D printer.. It is basically a tube and in one end an attachment for an M42 lens and in the other end you place a really bright torch. In the middle there is a slot to place a stencil. Here I made my own using a square piece of card with tinfoil taped on. I pinpricked the foil so the light could pass through. The lens on the end focuses the light and you can point it at things to light them with crazy results.

There is an off the shelf version but it's super expensive so Paul really helped me out making this. Top man!

Here is another created using the same setup but this time with some additional light added and a pan of the camera. I love the movement and feel a pan gives off. It makes stuff frenetic which I really like. Pair that with the specked light from this tool and you can get some crazy results.

Now this one is a bit dark. Not from a light perspective (although low key) but from a psychological pov. Instead of the pinpricked tinfoil I used a dried leaf placed in the plastic frame. The light from the torch passes through the leaf then through the lens. I think this one looks like I'm about to explode. Crazy stuff.

As always the above shots were shot during a single long exposure in complete darkness.

Any questions on this set up or any of my others please feel free to drop a comment and I'll do my best to help.

Happy days.

WHAT IS LIGHTPAINTING?

Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.
