I have been searching fory dream job for months, I was fortunate enough to stumbled on an opening in one of the best companies. The job description matches my skills and I applied immediately.
I submitted my application through the email that came with the job opening. Fews weeks later, I received an email for an interview from the personnel manager to come for an interview. I was happy because I will be working in my dream company. The interview was scheduled for Monday by 11:00am.
During the weekend, I prepared myself and everything I will be needing for the interview and waited for the day. Monday came and I was so confident in myself. As I was preparing, I caught up with conversation with my friend and was not aware of time. I suddenly realized I was to go for an interview. So when I looked at the time it was already ten minutes to eleven. I hurriedly took my bag and dash out of the house.
On getting to the office, I met the receptionist at the reception and some people were leaving the office.
“How may I help you ma?” The receptionist asked
“I'm here to the interview.” I said breathing very fast.
“What is you name and what time were you supposed to be here?”
“My name is Faith and I was asked to come by 11:00am for the interview.”
“Sorry ma, you miss the boat.”
“Please can I just see the Human Resource personnel?” I pleaded.
“Madam there is nothing you can do now, the interview is over.” She said without looking my way.
As we were talking, the HR personnel came out because and ask the receptionist what is the problem. She tried explaining to him and I immediately jumped in.
“Please sir I was scheduled for an interview today, I was caught up with something and did not realize the time.” I said with a shaky voice.
The HR personnel looked at me with a mix of understanding and disappointment. "I'm afraid you have missed the interview, Faith. We started at 11:00am, and we have already completed the process. We can not accommodate latecomers, as punctuality is essential in our company."
I felt frustrated "I understand, sir. I'm truly sorry for my lateness. Can I reschedule for another time?"
The HR personnel shook his head. "I'm afraid not. We have already selected candidates for the position. But I appreciate your interest in our company. We will keep your resume on file for future opportunities."
I left the office feeling defeated, wondering what could have been if I had managed my time better. As i walked away, I couldn't help but think about the conversation with my friend that had cost me the opportunity.
I called my friend on my way to the house pouring out my frustration.
"I missed the job offer because I was talking to you, I'm so angry with myself right now."
Sandra apologized and offered words of encouragement. "Don't be too hard on yourself, Faith. You will find another opportunity. You are talented and capable."
I took a deep breath, “may be the job was not meant for me.”
I learned a great lesson to always value my time and time of others in future so that I will not miss the boat again.
Thank you all for reading.
