Die kleine Pappelglucke ist ein Nachtfalter aus der Familie der Glucken (Lasiocampidae). Der Falter fliegt erst spät im Jahr, meistens nach den ersten Nachtfrösten. Er nimmt keine Nahrung zu sich. Das Männchen kann mit seinen ausgeprägten Fühlen das Weibchen über Pheromone orten. Nach der Paarung legt das Weibchen seine Eier an das Gehölz von unterschiedlichen Laubbäumen uns Sträuchern ab. Das Ei überwintert und die Raupe schlüpft im darauf folgenden Frühjahr. Sie ernährt sich von den frischen Blättern der Nahrungspflanze. Die Verpuppung erfolgt am Boden in einem Kokon. Die kleine Pappelglucke ist noch weit verbreitet und kann in Mitteleuropa noch zahlreich beobachtet werden.
The December moth is a moth from the family of Lasiocampidae. The moth flies late in the year, usually after the first night frosts. It does not eat any food.The male can locate the female with his fan-like antennae using pheromones. After mating, the female lays her eggs on the trees and bushes of various deciduous trees and shrubs. The egg hibernates and the caterpillar hatches the following spring. It feeds on the fresh leaves of the food plant. The pupation takes place on the ground in a cocoon. The December moth is still widespread and can still be observed in large numbers in Central Europe.
