A bit of history...
The Royal Greenhouses are among the most important monuments of the 19th century. The greenhouses and the diversity of plants they preserve are also a reflection of the colonial era and the fascination of the time with exoticism and new distant lands.
A city of glass
In 1873, the architect Alphonse Balat designed, for King Leopold II, a greenhouse complex made entirely of glass and steel to complement the Château de Laeken. He supervised the various stages of its construction until his death in 1895, followed by the architects Girault and Maquet. Built between 1874 and 1905, the Royal Greenhouses were a spectacular innovation at the time due to their size and architectural quality.
Botanical collection
The Royal Greenhouses house thousands of exotic plants and trees, including an exceptional collection of camellias which King Leopold II was particularly fond of.

My vision of the place I found the place beautiful with a superb energia, beautiful flowers and beautiful parks super well maintained. I had a great time in the greenhouses of Laeken, they are part of the history.
Very important! They are only open to the public 15 days a year. I was very lucky to be able to go there.
