"It's your final exam, and I don't think you should be so careless; otherwise, you would have to face the music."
I said this to my cousin, who was in the 2nd year. She was so careless in the matter of studies. All the time she used to spend playing different games on her mobile phone and in other activities. Her mother asked me to guide her in her studies as I was older than her. But her behaviour was so childish and she didn't pay heed to what I said or told her.
"Alright! Alright...! Nothing will happen, just chill, babe." This is what she used to reply to me with.
"Did you hear about the new park that has opened in our area?"
"Yes! I heard it."
"Why not go there tomorrow?"
"Are you serious? You have only two days left, and your mom sent you here to study, but you are not even a little stressed about your exams. I'll not go with you."
"It would be great fun, and we will be back after a while. "
"But I can't go."
"Alright! I'll not ask you to come, but at least give me a favor."
"Favor? What do you mean?"
"Yes! I just want you not to let my mother know about my visit to the park."
She was pleading, so I was convinced. The next day, instead of coming to me, she went straight to the park with her other friends. She spent a lot of time there, while her mother was not aware of it. In the afternoon, her mother called me and asked about her. I lied to her that she was preparing for her exams, so she was satisfied. Later, I regretted telling her a lie. I immediately called her.
"Where are you? Your mother is calling me?"
"I am just on my way."
After a while, she sent me a message that she had reached her home.
The next day, she came to me and asked me to mark the important questions so she could prepare. I spent two hours searching for and finding the paper pattern for the year. I helped her in every way possible. Now it was all up to her to study, but instead of this, she spent most of the time on the phone, playing games and making video calls with her friends.
The next day was the last day before her exams. I suggested she study at home, so her mother could keep an eye on her. I don't know that she studied that day or not, but when she came the next day after the exam, she was satisfied.
"Are you sure you attempted all the questions?"
I asked this question just because of her reckless behavior before the exam. But she satisfied me with her confidence. Her exams had gone the same way, one after the other, and every time she was confident.
After the exams, she waited for her results to be announced. It was an annual exam that was conducted by the boards in all the provinces, so it was destined to be announced after three months. All through the period, she remained careless and never showed any worries. A day before her result, she came to my house and asked me to pray for her. This was the first time I saw her concerned about the result. She said,
"I lied to you about my exams."
"What do you mean by this nonsense?"
"Actually I didn't perform well in my exams. Now all I need is prayers and good luck."
"Are you insane? How could you do this?"
I was disturbed to hear this. The next day, she checked her result on the internet as it was uploaded online. She passed only two subjects out of six. She came to me and burst into tears. I asked her the reason, and she told me about her result.
"Have you told your mother about it?" I asked.
"No I haven't told anyone about it. I don't know how I will face my parents." She replied.
"I warned you earlier, but you didn't hear me. Now accept the punishment for the irresponsibility you have shown and face the music. "
She stayed at my place for a few hours and then asked me to come with her. She was nervous, so I didn't refuse. She told her about the result. Her mother was upset to hear this. She asked her to work hard in the future, otherwise it wouldn't be good for her.
