Stumbling in the theme for this first edition, it's a great privilege and I wouldn't want to take it for granted. As I always say, it's been a great moment from one edition to another. When I saw the topic for this first edition, I was excited to put forth my entry. Congratulations to all of us that made it to this special episode.
The subject of discussion for this edition is on the issue of a neighbor. This is not a new word but a word that is popular and commonly used today. Before I proceed, I would like to explain who a neighbor is and perhaps consider some characteristics of a good neighbor. A neighbor could be any one who is close or whose residence is close to you. A neighbor is someone that is vibrant and very close to someone's house or home. Neighbors could be seen as individuals, families, or groups of people that have similarities.
Some of the attributes of a good neighbor include;
A good neighbor renders help to people. Offering of assistance and humor to help is one of the major characteristics of a good neighbor. The help is not attached to any ulterior motive. This reminds me of what happened in the Bible about the story of a man that was bitten by thieves and laid by the road side different kinds of people with big portfolios came and saw him never said a word neither picked for treatment. It was the Samaritan man that came , rendered help to resuscitate the man. This is truly an act of a good neighbor. You mustn't have similar appellations before you regard such an individual neighbor but being compelled by compassion and love.
A good neighbor is trustworthy and sincere. He or she can be trusted with anything. Such kinds of neighbors would be reliable with honest reports. A good neighbor exercises good reports. Such can be trusted with his words, the way he lives his life with sincerity.
A good neighbor is filled with the spirit of kindness and compassion not minding who is next to him.
Truly there are two kinds of neighbors, the good and the bad however my emphasis would be on the good. There are neighbors that would treat you just exactly and if I am not mistaking could even do better than the family people. They can go extra miles out of their comfort zones to do the unimaginable.
In fact, I have seen neighbors that one could easily leave whatever he has in the house for them to take care of. They can be trusted base on their integrity and the way they conduct themselves. I could remember one of our tenants in the house. You could entrust anything on their hands and I can assured you that you would come back and meet it intact. Before they left the house, we have been living as one big family with them sharing almost everything together.
As I conclude, the question is if I want a neighbor to possess all the attributes I have mentioned, can my life too be a template that others could learn from? Can it be an example for others? Can another individual regard me as a good neighbor without any default?
Truly good neighbors still exists and can be found today even though scarce.
