Caught in a Loophole.

Sometimes I ask myself, "Is it possible to fall in love with someone after being with them for a week?" or is it just infatuation, especially when you are already in love with someone else. I keep asking myself this question, but the more time I spend with her, I know it's not infatuation, nor is it love. Then what can it be?

Two months ago, under the bright orange sun, I was rushing to the bus stop because I wanted to get back to the office as soon as possible. I had a pending task I should have finished the previous day, but I was too confident in my ability to finish it in minutes. While I was out of the office getting food, my boss called me requesting the document I hadn't even touched.

I was rushing and pushing through the crowd in front of me with my right hand while holding the bag of food with my left hand. There were so many people on the road that I was just bumping into different people, muttering the word.

"I am sorry," as I kept trying to make my way back to the office.

As I weaved through the crowd, muttering hurried apologies, I suddenly collided with someone softer than the usual hard shoulders I’d been brushing past. My bag of food turned dangerously in my hand, but somehow I managed to keep it from spilling.

I looked up, ready to give out another rushed “I’m sorry,” and that was when time… stopped.

Her face was the kind you could get lost in without even realizing it, eyes that seemed to hold a quiet light, lips curved in the faintest of smiles, and hair that caught the sunlight in a way that made me forget the heat of the afternoon. For a moment, I wasn’t on a crowded street, I wasn’t late for the office, and I wasn’t holding a ticking time bomb of unfinished work; I was just there, staring. Time had stopped, and it was like I was in a bollyhood movie, her smile was timeless.

“I’m sorry,” I finally managed, my voice softer this time. I had to cough to get my real voice back. "I'm sorry," I said again.

“It’s okay,” she said, and the smile deepened.

I stepped aside to let her pass, but she didn’t move. It was then that I realized I was still standing in her way.
"Oh, sorry," I said again, and this time she gave a cheeky laugh, and I didn't realize I was laughing softly too.

"What's the name, by the way?" I said, looking into her eyes. She looked at me and immediately looked away.

"Can you move so I can pass through?" I moved out of the way, then she started moving slowly, then turned to look at me, "My name is Toluwalase by the way." Then turn to walk away. I didn't know when I stretched out my hand to hold her.

"Wait, don't go yet. I would have collected your number, but I am not with my phone. Here is my business card. Please give me a call, or a beep, or anything, please." I stretched out my card to her, she looked at me, gave that timeless smile, then collected my card. I watched as she walked away, while there was still a smile on my face.

As she disappeared into the crowd, it was then that I remembered my pending task. Immediately, I started rushing back to the office. As soon as I got back to the office, I pushed my food to the side and started working on my task. I finished everything on time and presented it to my boss. After some hours, I closed and was on my way home. I kept wondering if Toluwalase would give me a call.

I got home, ate, and took my bath. I was on my bed when I was about to sleep, then my phone rang. I was skeptical about picking up the phone because no one had ever called me at that time. I picked up the phone to see who it was was calling so late, but there was no ID for the caller. I dropped my phone, and it was at that moment that I remembered Toluwalase. I jumped at my phone and picked up the call

"Hello, Hello. Toluwalase, is that you?" I said as I stood on my bed.

"Yes, this is Toluwalase. I guess I am talking to the right person because I remember the sound of your voice," She said, and I started blushing.

We spoke for hours, and it felt like time was moving at the speed of light. We continued talking until it was the following day, around 3 am. Neither of us knew there was a time jump. We ended the call, but we kept communicating.

One day turned two, two days turned seven days, and before we knew it, a month had passed. Two strangers connected by fate, who have never seen each other again since the first time they met, continue to talk. In two months, I couldn't do without hearing her voice for a day; I kept expecting a text from her, and not talking to her in a day felt like a part of me was taken away. I wasn't complete in a day without talking to her. Come to think of it, it had just been two months, and I don't know if these feelings in my heart are love, or the butterfly in my belly when I talk to her, really trying to talk to her. I think I might be in love.

Probably one day I would confess my feelings to her and tell her how I truly feel about her, I just hope this wouldn't ruin what we have. Anyways, can't wait to talk to her tomorrow. I am sure she is always waiting to talk to me...

The End.
