We all know that Jesus Christ lived a life without sin. So why did He need to be baptized? It’s a question that many people ask. The truth is, Jesus didn’t need baptism because He had sinned,He did it to fulfill something very important.
The Bible tells us in Matthew 3:13–15 that when Jesus came to be baptized by John the Baptist, John was surprised and even tried to stop Him. But Jesus told him, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” So John agreed.
Even though Jesus had no sin, He showed us what to do by example. If Jesus got baptized, then we as Christians should take it seriously too.
Also, Jesus’ baptism marked the beginning of His ministry. Right after He was baptized, the heavens opened and the Spirit of God came down like a dove. A voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” That moment showed the world that Jesus was truly sent by God.
We should also have in mind that baptism is more than just a church activity. It’s a sign that we’re serious about following God.
Jesus didn’t need to be baptized to be forgiven,He did it to teach us how to obey God and to set an example for us. If the Son of God took that step, we should do the same.
