They say: “Why did you choose a C-section?” But the truth is we didn’t, like we never wished for seven layers of the skin to be cut, and for the spine to feel the sting of anesthesia, for the soreness that makes even breathing heavy. We didn’t choose the scar but we chose life, we chose the heartbeat of our dearest baby over the comfort of our own body.
Then, days later, when we struggle to stand, the stitches trying to pull, when our body feels broken, we still choose to carry our babies with a smile, because that’s what motherhood is.
