In the history of every nation there are controversial characters, yes, but of unquestionable permanence in the collective consciousness. [Eva Duarte de Perón](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eva_Per%C3%B3n) has been for Argentina, one of those characters, to the point of having been declared [Spiritual Head of the Nation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eva_Per%C3%B3n#Re-election_and_Spiritual_Leader_of_the_Nation). We will never deal with political issues of a foreign country, unless we are asked directly, so we will go into the details of the [Evita Museum](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Museo_Evita), a place where we went in search of light. Someone once told me: “To understand Argentines, you have to know the history of Eva Perón”, for this reason and because we are always willing to see both sides of the political spectrum, @aventurerasbike and this server went to Av. Lafinur 2988, Cdad. Autónoma de Buenos Aires, where a large three-story house is located, which exhibits the life and work of this actress and politician first and then. The entrance fee for foreigners is ARS$ 9,000 and for Argentines or residents with ID is ARS$ 3,000.

There are three levels in the museum's collection and the exhibits have a guided route using a QR code that gives access to an audio file. This route is marked and no visitor can deviate from it. The museum does not allow photographing many of the exhibits (especially those concerning dresses worn by Eva Duarte, the ones that appear here in the gallery were because we took distant shots of some of them). There is history everywhere and we were impressed by how someone so young got into the hearts of Argentines. A lover of social causes, she managed to take the pulse of the dispossessed and acted accordingly as first lady of the nation, accompanying the dictator Domingo Perón in the design of massive works that benefited the “descamisados” (a nickname she used to refer to the poor classes). Her adversaries accused her of populism (among other things), something I will not comment on.

There are many texts displayed on the walls, with parts of his speech or political thoughts; in addition, many objects of the time that belonged to him or were linked to his youth and adulthood. The route through which you travel takes you chronologically to the review of his life. Thus, objects, documents, texts and audiovisuals trace her youth in a rural town where she was originally from, her move to the Argentine capital to work in radio and climb the media ladder until she made a name for herself as an actress. The journey continues with evidence of her meeting Domingo Perón at a mass event with workers and trade unionists, the love at first sight and the courtship that culminated in marriage. We were surprised by the immense amount of antiques related to Eva belonging to this museum and the care received by such objects.

The path then continues with her involvement in politics and how from the position of first lady, she worked tirelessly for people with fewer opportunities, children, the elderly and workers. I believe that the stature of a leader is measured by her legacy and even if it is controversial, it can only be viewed objectively through the eyes of those who adore her. That said, the highlight of the museum tour is her speech asking for a deadline for Argentines to decide on her candidacy for the presidency of the Peronist party in front of a huge number of supporters (it is said that there were at least 1.5 million people gathered in Plaza de Mayo). “Evita”, as her fans call her, died of cervical cancer at the age of 33 and her light, it seems, is still shining bright despite the opposition she received to leave her legacy in the past. It is rightly said that you can kill a person, but never their ideals.
