Anoche se jugó la jornada que marca el comienzo del último tercio de la temporada en la Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional (LVBP), a tan solo una semana para escenificar el juego de las estrellas (Martes 9 de Diciembre). Los Leones del Caracas se acercaron a la azotea del campeonato a solo tres juegos, cuando dieron cuenta de sus rivales modernos Tiburones de La Guaira, entregando nueve arepas por 3 rayitas de los felinos. El abridor Wilmer Font enfrentó a 23 bateadores en seis episodios sin permitir carreras, espaciando 4 imparables, regalando un boleto y ponchando a 4 oponentes. Oswaldo Arcia se vistió de héroe cuando con dos hombres en las bases en el octavo, cuando logró un toque de sacrificio inesperado por todos y llegó a salvo a la primera base. Dejó la mesa servida para Jhonny Pereda, quien trajo dos anotaciones con imparable. The Leones del Caracas clawed closer to the penthouse of the standings, now only three games back, after serving the Tiburones de La Guaira nine arepas while cashing in three runs of their own. Starter Wilmer Font faced 23 hitters across six frames without letting a run cross, scattering four knocks, issuing one free pass, and fanning four. Oswaldo Arcia turned into the night’s hero in the eighth when, with two men aboard, he dropped a surprise bunt nobody saw coming and legged it out to first. That set the table for Jhonny Pereda, who plated two with a base hit. But the play that sealed Arcia’s MVP tag was robbing Maikel García of a sure dinger, snagged with his back to the dish to end the inning. La Guaira now sits tied for fifth, two games off the top.

En Guatamare, Isla de Margarita, los locales Bravos prolongaron el mal momento de las Águilas del Zulia al propinar la sexta derrota consecutiva por marcador de 8 carreras a 1. El abridor más efectivo hasta ahora por los isleños Osmer Morales, espació 4 cohetes en seis episodios completos, aceptando 1 carrera, entregando par de boletos y ponchando a 2 contrarios. El bullpen trabajó los otros 3 episodios aceptando un solo hit. Wilson García, Carlos Jesús Pérez y Ramón Flores destacaron por los locales al impulsar par de carreras cada uno. The islanders’ most reliable arm so far, Osmer Morales, spaced out four rockets over six solid innings, allowing just one run, walking a pair, and punching out two. The bullpen locked it down the rest of the way, giving up only one knock across three frames. Wilson García, Carlos Jesús Pérez, and Ramón Flores all came through clutch, each driving in a couple. Bravos iced the contest with a five-run rally in the bottom of the seventh. The Margarita bats racked up 12 hits, making the Águilas’ five look flimsy. Once perched atop the standings, the birds slid to fourth place, still only a game off the penthouse, so there’s room to bounce back even though they’re hitting the road this week. Meanwhile, the indígenas grabbed the driver’s seat, half a game ahead of Caribes and Tigres.

Caribes de Anzoátegui hizo el trabajo en Valencia, para ganar en entradas extras y frenar su racha de ganados, a los Navegantes del Magallanes 6 carreras a 4. Fue una derrota dolorosa para la nave quienes habían remontado en el noveno para empatar, luego volvieron a empatar en el cierre del décimo y finalmente cayeron por dos carreras permitidas al inicio del onceavo episodio. 14 lanzadores usaron ambos equipos, renovando la tendencia de ésta campaña, donde el uso excesivo del bullpen ha sido la nota. Hernán Pérez fue el héroe de los indígenas, al impulsar la diferencia con un sencillo, en una ventaja que jamás perderían los orientales. El hit fue más satisfactorio, dado que el toletero iba de 5-0 hasta ese turno. Hernán se volvió más determinante corriendo las bases, dada una persecución para ponerle out, que propició otra carrera más en las piernas de Andruw Monasterio. The hit was sweeter since he’d been 0-for-5 until that swing. Pérez made more noise on the basepaths, hustling through a rundown that opened the door for another run off the legs of Andruw Monasterio. With the W, Caribes sit second in the standings, just half a game off the penthouse. Magallanes, meanwhile, dropped to the basement tied with Caracas, three games back of the leader.

Para finalizar, Cardenales de Lara dejó en el terreno a los Tigres de Aragua 4 carreras por 3, en un emocionante juego de pelotas jugado en Barquisimeto. Cleiverth Pérez tiró pelota de 5 hits en casi 6 episodios, permitiendo 2 carreras, regalando un boleto y ponchando a 3 oponentes. El héroe de la noche fue Ildemaro Vargas con un hit de oro productor de la carrera diferencial en el cierre del décimo. El bullpen de los felinos volvió a fallar para mantener la ventaja cómoda de 3 a 1 poseída por Tigres hasta el cierre del séptimo.
