I keep saying that a lot but in my opinion remote and hybrid ways of working are the best things that have happened these past few years in the workplace. Honestly, speaking nobody gives a shit about a pizza day or a fridge with some free snacks. I prefer to order a pizza at home and eat as much as i want rather than spending 3 hours of my day commuting to eat 2-3 slices.
Before COVID, Remote or even Hybrid ways of working were something that people only dreamed of. Only a handful of companies around the world provide this opportunity and thus it was considered a rare benefit that everyboy sought. The vast majority of the companies were saying that it's hard to implement or that is the nature of the said job to be on-site.
Covid came in and well, the "hard to implement" and "it's the nature of the work" rapidly changed and basically mostly everyone was working remote. Turned out that it wasn't that hard as even small companies implemented that. The vast majority of people like that way of working but guess who didn't?
Boards of Directors, Owners, CEOs and in general C-level management and that's why it turned back to Onsite. To make matters worse, as people didn't like that change they tried to implement it by following 2 different paths. The first one that we saw mostly in America was the "If you don't like it, you are fired" kind of path The second one that other countries followed was the switch to Hybrid 3 days remote, 2 in the office, followed by another change of 2 days remote, 1 in the office, followed by fully Onsite except if you are a bit sick or something.
To make matters worse, they paid websites and people to write and upload posts about how people are more productive working from the office than working hybrid or remotely. This is quite interesting and shows the level of corruption we have in our countries. There are countless posts and studies that show the exact opposite and if you literally go and ask random employees, anyone could realise the truth.
Also, it doesn't really need any form of study to understand that. Most people spend around 1-4 hours commuting each day. So they basically lose 1-4 hours per day from their lives. To add to that, they will need to wake up earlier than working from home, so if you add that time they lose way more time daily.
Does anyone really think that the same person who wakes up 30 to 1:30 hours earlier than another, then commutes, let's say 1 hour to go, will be more productive than someone who wakes up 30 minutes before work, prepares his breakfast and starts working?
Ofc there are people who have the need to communicate with others in person but also need some days to be more relaxed. That's the Hybrid model for them. Literally none wants to work fully Onsite, or let's just say, a tiny percentage. Trust me i work in recruiting, the number 1 reason people want to leave their companies is to find a remote or at least hybrid role.
And if you want to really know the hard truth as to why mostly every company switched to Onsite, let me tell you this. It's not lower productivity. It's again human jealousy and hatred. It mind sound a bit weird or even a joke but sadly this is the one and only truth.
You see, most of the C-level people, owners, founders and such need to be in the office daily and most of the times for long hours. The logic is as simple-minded as it gets. Why should i be in the office and the said employee or Team Lead to be working from the comfort of their home? To add to that take into account that the vast majority of people who are making the big-time decisions are of an older age, with a completely different mindset of the way work should be done ;). They think that if you are home you do nothing but if you are onsite, where "they can see you working:" you will work.
