My Favorite Childhood Stories

I don't remember anyone telling me stories when I was young. I was an early reader and and early writer and pretty much found my own stories.

A story from my childhood is that my dad found me under the dining room table when I was five years old. When he asked me what I was doing, I told him I was writing a book. Thus began my writing career, as this story caused a stir among the family. So as long as I can remember, I have always been a writer who told my own stories.

As a reader, I liked stories of explorers and travelers who went off to parts unknown. I would read any book about people who went off to find their fate in an unknown distant land.

Sometimes the stories would center on a theme like people who go dig for dinosaur bones or draw maps. Or maybe they buy a house somewhere before they ever see it.

I can remember reading a series about a kid who was a stowaway on a boat in the 1800's, and got to travel the world that way. Other books were about pioneers in the early years of North American exploration.

I'm always intrigued to know what happens when people go where they have never been before. This is still the kind of story I like to read. Any kind of travel post will be the one I am drawn to.
