I've been very active in drawing, and I'm working on a project to have a YouTube channel. I know things are very different there, but I think I have the tools to have my own channel. That's why I've been working on a series of painted banknotes with the most iconic villains in cinema. This time I've painted the fearsome Russian boxer Ivan Drago, the antagonist of the fourth film in the Rocky saga. He made his appearance as the perfect athlete ever trained, a true machine, who takes the life of the legendary Apollo Creed in an exhibition fight. This makes Rocky decide to avenge him by making this a personal battle. Ivan Drago shows no emotions; he's just a machine that pulverizes everything with his fists. It's that cold and implacable gaze that I've drawn. In a short video you can appreciate the important parts of the process, which I will also briefly describe below. I hope you like it.
Hola queridos amigos de Hive Diy, espero que todo se encuentren muy bien, envío mis saludos a todos los artesanos grandiosos que hacen vida en esta hermosa comunidad. He estado muy activo en el dibujo, y es que estoy el proyecto de tener un canal en Youtube, se que allá las cosas son muy diferentes pero creo que cuento con las herramientas para tener mi propio canal, es por eso que he estado trabajando en una serie de billetes pintados con los villanos más icónicos del cine. En esta oportunidad he pintado al temible boxeador ruso Ivan Drago, el antagonista de la cuarta película de la saga Rocky, hizo su aparición como el atleta perfecto jamás entrenado, una verdadera máquina, quien quita la vida al legendario Apollo Creed en una pelea de exhibición, esto hace que Rocky se proponga vengarlo haciendo esto una batalla personal. Ivan Drago no muestra emociones, solo es una máquina que pulveriza todo con sus puños, es esa mirada fría e implacable la que he dibujado. En un pequeño video corto podrán apreciar las partes importantes del proceso, el cual también narraré brevemente a continuación, espero que les guste.

I started by using a banknote that was in very good condition. I painted the part with the official figure, using a single coat of paint, just the silhouette of Ivan Drago. Once I'd started, I thought it wouldn't work well, since the color of the banknote closely matches Ivan Drago's features. However, I continued, figuring out how to overcome this small problem. So, over the silhouette I'd created with paint, I began painting every detail of the Russian fighter.
Comencé utilizando un billete que estuviera en muy buen estado, en la parte donde traía la figura oficial, lo pinté con una capa de pintura solo con la silueta de Iván Drago. Una vez que había comenzado pensé que no daría buen resultado, ya que el color del billete coincide mucho con las características de Iván Drago, sin embargo seguí adelante y en el proceso ir viendo de que manera sortear este pequeño problema. Así que sobre la silueta que hice con pintura comencé a pintar cada detalles del luchador ruso.

After mixing the paints, I obtained a tone similar to Ivan Drago's, but I altered it a bit more to create a contrast between the drawing and the background. So, I started with a slightly dark layer, on top of which I added a slightly lighter shade on one side of the face. I continued painting until I formed an even layer that would allow me to later add highlights and shadows for the expression lines.
Después de mezclar las pinturas obtuve un tono parecido al de Iván Drago, soin embargo lo alteré un poco más para que pudiera haber un contraste entre el dibujo y el fondo, así que comencé con una capa un poco oscura encima de la cual solo pondría de un lado del rostro un poco más claro. Así voy pintando hasta formar una capa uniforme que permita luego agregar luces y sombras para las líneas de expresión.

In the second step I darken the paint a little more, the tones I have mixed for the skin are white, light brown, crimson red and a little cadmium yellow, in the right measure you can increase or decrease the intensity, in this case I darken it a little to paint the part of the face where the light is scarcer.
En el segundo paso oscurezco un poco más la pintura, los tonos que he mezclado para la piel son blanco, café claro, rojo carmesí y un poco de amarillo cadmio, en la justa medida se puede aumentar o bajar la intensidad, en este caso se oscurece un poco para pintar la parte del rostro donde la luz es más escasa.

Next, I paint the lower part of the drawing, which is the neck, adding dark brushstrokes so that the drawing isn't flat but rather allows the muscles and joints in the neck to be appreciated. I also add lines of expression in the eyes, like the eyebrows, which indicate Ivan Drago's lack of emotion.
Luego voy pintando la parte inferior del dibujo, que sería el cuello, donde voy agregando pinceladas oscuras para que el dibujo no quede plano sino que se pueda apreciar los músculos y articulaciones a nivel del cuello. También voy agregando líneas de expresión en la mirada como las cejas que indican la ausencia de emociones por parte de Ivan Drago.

Next, I paint Drago's hair, which has a very distinctive cut, reminiscent of a Russian soldier's, but which represents order and strength, unlike Rocky, who sported a more relaxed and carefree cut. I also detailed the color of his eyes, which are blue, so I painted these small dots very carefully. Another detail was the intense sweat that reflects the lights on Drago's face.
Seguidamente voy pintante el cabello de Drago, el cual lleva un corte muy particular, como un militar ruso pero que representa el orden y la fuerza, al contrario de Rocky quien lucía un corte más relajado y despreocupado. También hice el detalle de los ojos en cuanto al color, los cuales son azules, así que estos pequeños puntos los pinté con mucho cuidado. Otro detalle fue el sudor extremo que hace que se refleje en el rostro de Rago las luces.

What did you think of the result? Ivan Drago is a great villain and the antagonists appear because they are an essential part of the protagonist, it is the obstacle to overcome to achieve glory, that is how the cinema presents the obstacle. Drago has very little dialogue but it was not necessary for him to remain in history as a legend. In the Creed film saga, the legacy, he appears again, this time with his son, and we can see a different side of Drago, no longer as the villain against Rocky, but as a father who wants to recover the pride of his last name. ¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? Ivan Drago es un gran villano y los antagonistas aparecen porque son parte esencial del protagonista, es el obstáculo a vencer para alcanzar la gloria, así es como el cine presenta el obstáculo. Drago tiene muy pocos díalogos pero no le hizo falta para quedar en la historia como una leyenda. en la saga de películas de Creed, el legado, vuelve a parecer, esta vez con su hijo, y podemos ver una faceta diferente de Drago, ya no como el villano en contra de Rocky, sino como un padre que quiere recuperar el orgullo de su apellido.
