Hello dear friends of Holozing, I hope you are all doing very well and in good health. Today I want you to meet Spectry, a new creature that I came up with and that belongs to the supernatural world. I was inspired by the evil ghost that appeared in the Mario Bros. games. Spectry is a creature that can charm an opponent for a turn, making them unable to attack. This ability has a low energy cost, so it would be one of its main defenses. Spectry can also create a dense fog that reduces the accuracy of the opponent's attacks for two turns. These were some of the features that came to mind. I made the drawing of this adorable creature on brown cardboard because I wanted it to look very striking with a somewhat dark background. I hope you like it.
Hola queridos amigos de Holozing, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien y con mucha salud. Hoy quiero que conozcas a Spectry, una nueva criatura que se me ha ocurrido y que pertenece al mundo sobrenatural, me inspiré en el fantasma malvado que salía en los juegos de Mario Bross. Spectry es una criatura que puede encantar a un oponente por un turno, haciéndolo incapaz de atacar, esta habilidad tiene un bajo costo de energía por lo que sería una de sus principales defensas. También Spectry puede crear una densa neblina que reduce la precisión de los ataques del oponente durante dos turnos, estas fueron unas de las características que se me ocurrieron. Hice el dibujo de esta adorable criatura en un cartón de color marrón porque quería que se viera muy llamativo al tener un fondo algo oscuro, espero que les guste.

I started by cutting the cardboard to make my drawing. Since it was quite large, I reduced it a few centimeters to make my drawing look better. Then I began drawing, this time with a 2B pencil, which is somewhat dark, since the dark background wouldn't make it easy to see. I made the entire sketch, carefully marking the lines to avoid problems when using colored pencils.
Comencé cortando el cartón para hacer mi dibujo, como era de una tamaño grande lo reduje algunos centímetros para que mi dibujo luciera mejor. Después comencé a dibujar, esta vez con un lápiz 2B que es algo oscuro, ya que al ser el fondo de un tono oscuro no se podría ver bien. Hice todo el boceto, marcando bien los trazos para no tener problemas cuando utilice las lápices de color.

An idea that suddenly occurred to me, and one I'd used a while back, was to paint the entire silhouette of the drawing with white cold paint to transform it into a canvas. I do this so the white absorbs the colors and not the cardboard directly. It also makes the colors vivid and the contrast between the background and the shape more evident.
Una idea que se me ocurrió así de pronto, y que había utilizado hace tiempo atrás fue pintar toda la silueta del dibujo con pintura al frío de color blanca para transformar en un lienzo. Hago esto para que el color blanco absorba los colores y no directamente el cartón, además hace que los colores queden vivo y el contraste entre el fondo y la forma sea más evidente.

I used a range of colors, somewhere between cool and warm, with the intention of making purple predominant but also with some holographic shine. So I start painting from the top, where I've made some small horns that give it its supernatural yet earthly appearance.
Utilicé una gama de colores intermedios entre fríos y cálidos, mi intención es que el color púrpura sea el predominante pero que también se vea con algo de brillo holográfico. Así que comienzo a pintar por la parte superior donde hice unos pequeños cuernos que le dan su apariencia de ser sobrenatural y a la vez terrenal.

Other things I liked to do because they would look really cool were bat wings or a small dragon's wings, so that they would stand out from the rest of the body I painted them dark purple.
Otras de las cosas que me gustó hacer porque se vería muy cool fueropn alas de murciélagos o de pequeño dragón, para que resaltara en frente al resto del cuerpo las pinte de color púrpura oscuro.

Next, I started making the eyes. I wanted them to look adorable, but to achieve that, I also had to make the mouth adorable but minimalist. So, I played it safe by doing these parts in a more classic anime style. I made two small dots painted in different shades of purple, leaving a lighter area for contrast.
Seguidamente comencé a hacer los ojos, estos quería que se vieran muy adorables, pero par alograr eso también tenía que hacer su boca adorable pero minimalista. Así que fuí por lo seguro haciendo estas partes con el estilo más clásico de los animes. Así que hice dos pequeños puntitos que estan pintados condiferentes tonos de púrpura dejando una parte más clara como contraste.

Next, I began painting the body of our flying friend Spectry, using a very light pastel color to create a base over which to gradually darken the other tones. I really like how it darkens around the edges while the center becomes lighter; it's like a sphere effect, without neglecting the parts that should remain bright.
Después comencé a pintar el cuerpo de nuestro amigo Spectry el cual puede volar, utilzando un color pastel muy claro para hacer una base sobre la cual ir oscureciendo poco a poco los demás tonos. Me gusta mucho el hecho de que por los bordes se va oscureciendo mientras que el centro se va aclarando, es como un efecto esfera, sin dejar de lado las partes que deben quedar brillantes.

After painting most of the drawing, I begin blending and smudging with a brush dipped in mineral oil. Since the colored pencils used are wax, the oil helps dissolve the pigments and help them blend better. The paper absorbs this moisture, and the colors gain greater contrast. Finally, I make some lines that represent energy; I paint these in turquoise.
Luego de haber pintado la mayor parte del dibujo comienzo a mezclar y a difuminar con un pincel remojado en aceite mineral. Como los lápices de colores utilizados son de cera, el aceite ayuda a disolver los pigmetos y a mezclarse mejor, el papel absorbe esa humedad y los colores se tornan con un mejor contraste. Por último hago algunas líneas que representan energía, estas las pinto de color verde turquesa.

What did you think of the ending? What do you think of this adorable character? As you can see, he's not so innocent; he hides great powers and isn't easy to defeat. Spectry has everything it takes to become a powerful creature, and he could even evolve by doubling his powers. I really enjoyed collaborating on something new and being able to share it with you.
