Hello, dear Jewelry friends, I hope you are very, very well. This Sunday weekend was a very good day. I did a few things, and among them, something I want to share with you. Surely many of you are cat lovers. And who isn't? They are very adorable creatures. I believe their greatest charm is their independence; it's what most catches my attention. To symbolize this love for cats, which I share with many people around the world, I made a small wooden piece, where I carved the figure of a sitting cat, using pine wood. Below, I will briefly describe the creation process. I hope you like it.
Hola queridos amigos de Jewelry, espero que muy muy bien, este día domingo de fin de semana fue muy bueno, hice algunas cosas y entre ellas algo que quiero compartir con ustedes. Seguramente muchos de ustedes son amantes de los gatos, ¿Y quien no? si son criaturas muy adorables, creo que su mayor encanto es su independencia, es lo que más llama mi atención. Para simbolizar este amor por los gatos, el cual comparto con muchas personas alrededor del mundo, he realizado una pequeña pieza en madera, donde he podido tallar la figura de un gato sentado, utilizando una madera de pino. A continuación voy a relatar brevemente como fue el proceso de creación, espero que les guste.

As usual, I cut a piece of pine wood, which I prepared to measure 4 centimeters long by 3 centimeters wide. Since it was very thick, I removed 1 centimeter of thickness so I could better carve the cat figure. I also cleaned the surface of the wood with sandpaper so it would be suitable for drawing. Then I made the silhouette of the cat, which took up almost the entire wood except for the edges on the sides. So I made two lines with a pencil and cut that entire area using a saw, thus reducing the space and making it easier to maneuver with the blades.
Corté como siempre un trozo de madera de pino, la cual preparé de un tamaño de 4 centímetros de largo por 3 de ancho. Como era muy gruesa le retiré 1 centímetro de grosor para pode tallar mejor la figura del gato. También hice limpieza a la superficie de la madera con una lija para que pudiera estar apta y así dibujar, seguidamente hice la silueta del gato el cual ocupó casi toda la madera con excepción de los bordes de los lados. De manera que hice dos líneas con un lápiz y toda esa zona la corté utilizando una sierra, así reduje el espacio para poder maniobrar mejor con las cuchillas.

Now I begin the carving, using the largest-bladed utility knife to remove the wood from the edges. Here, I follow the outline of the drawing once I've removed most of the wood. The cat's neck is a very difficult and almost inaccessible area, so what I do is slowly dig with the tip of the blade to the limit of its space. Then, with one of the smaller gouges, I remove the rest until I complete the curve. It's somewhat complicated, but with maximum concentration, it can be achieved.
Ahora comienzo con el tallado, utilizo para esto el cúter de hojilla más grande para retirar la madera de los bordes. Aquí voy siguiendo el trazo del dibujo una vez he quitado la mayor parte de la madera, el cuello del gato es un lugar muy difícil y casi inaccesible, así que lo que hago es ir poco a poco escarbando con la punta de la hojilla hasta el límite de su espacio. Después con una de las gubias más pequeñas quito el resto hasta completar la curva, es algo complicado pero con máxima concentración se puede lograr.

Then I change direction, or rather, side, since I do the same previous step on the left side of the piece. I cut and remove the wood with the same concentration and care. You can see how our beloved cat's head and part of its body are taking shape. When this can be seen with the naked eye, we know things are going well.
Después cambio de dirección, o mejor dicho cambio de lado, ya que el mismo paso anterior lo realizo del lado izquierdo de la pieza. Voy cortando y retirando la madera con la misma concentración y cuidado, sí puede verse como va tomando forma la cabeza de nuestro querido gato y también parte del cuerpo. Cuando esto puede apreciarse a simple vista es cuando sabemos que las cosas van saliendo bien.

Now comes what we could call the bottom of the piece, where its legs and part of its tail are located. Although these aren't completely drawn, just the outer edge is enough to know they're there. So I gradually remove the wood, using the smallest gouges to remove the wood to create the curve of the tail without damaging it.
Ahora viene lo que podríamos decir la parte inferior de la pieza, donde están ubicadas sus patitas y parte de su cola. Aunque estas no están completamente dibujadas, solamente con el borde exterior es suficiente para saber que están ahí. Así que voy poco a poco quitando la madera, con las gubias más pequeñas voy retirando la madera para hacer la curva de la cola sin que pueda estropearse la madera.

I continue shaping the tail, this time on the part of the piece that would be the base of the entire figure, and then on the inside—as you can see, using a small gouge to remove the wood in this narrow space where the tail forms a curve. I also shape the cat's body and head, as if removing the wood that remained between its ears.
Continúo dando forma a la cola, esta vez por la parte de la pieza que vendría siendo la base de toda la figura, y después al interior como pueden observar, con una gubia pequeña voy quitando la madera en este espacio tan estrecho donde la cola forma una curva. También le voy dando forma al cuerpo y la cabeza del gato, como retirando la madera que aún quedaba entre sus orejas.

The piece is almost finished, so I finish the last details with the finest sandpaper, smoothing all the imperfections off the wood until it's smooth and soft. After that, I add a small ring to dip it into the varnish; I have very little varnish left, haha. Then I let it dry for a few minutes before putting the necklace on, and that's it.
La pieza esta casi terminada, así que termino los últimos detalles con la lija más fina, y así pulir toda la amdera de imperfecciones hasta que quede lisa y suave. Despues de eso le pongo una pequeña argolla para inrtoducirla en barniz, ya me queda muy poco barniz jejeje. Luego dejo secar por unos cuantos minutos hasta ponerle el collar y así queda terminada.
FINAL WORK
What did you think of the result? Do you like the shine and color of the wood? I think it turned out beautiful, although I would have liked it more if I had used a reddish wood, but the results are satisfactory. Cats have been with us since the dawn of civilization. Unlike dogs, cats still retain wild traits like their hunting instinct, which never goes away. They are good companions but know how to have their own space, undoubtedly enigmatic creatures whose company I enjoy. That's all for now. I hope you enjoyed it. ¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? ¿Les gusta el brillo y el color de la madera? pienso que quedó hermosa, aunque si hubiera tenido madera de color rojiza me habría gustado más, pero los resultados son satisfactorios. Los gatos nos han acompañado desde los orígenes de la civilización, a diferencia del perro, el gato aún conserva rasgos salvajes como su instinto cazador, el cual nunca se va. Son buenos compañeros pero saben tener su propio espacio, sin duda criaturas enigmáticas de las cuales disfruto su compañia.
