Hello dear friends, I hope you're all doing well. It's still October, so Inktober is still active. So I was thinking about what I could do and decided to do something simple. I chose Mia Kalifa's face. I used a pencil, pen, and marker to draw a small portrait using a piece of paper, specifically a receipt, as a canvas. It's a doodle drawing, a strange but fun idea. I hope you like it.
Hola queridos amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, aun nos encontramos en el mes de octubre por lo que Inktober está activo, así que estuve pensando que podría hacer y decidí hacer algo sencillo, escogí el rostro de Mia Kalifa. Lo que hice fue utilizar lápiz, bolígrafo y también marcador para hacer un retrato pequeño utilizando como lienzo un trozo de papel, específicamente un recibo de compra. Es un dibujo con la técnica de los garabatos, algo extraño pero divertido. Espero que les guste.

The paper used by the machines that issue receipts isn't very easy to handle for drawing, of course, because it has a purpose other than art. One of the difficult things, and I think it's the main one, is that you can't make mistakes when sketching since you can't erase. If you use an eraser to correct a mistake, the paper will be damaged because the ink from the machine stains the paper, even after it has dried thoroughly. So I sketched Mia Khalifa's face with a light pencil since it won't be necessary to erase the lines.
El papel utilizado por las máquinas que expiden los recibos no es muy fácil de manejar para dibujar, por supuesto es un papel que tiene un propósito diferente al arte. Una de las cosas difíciles y creo que es la principal es que no se pueden cometer errores al hacer el boceto ya que no puedes borrar. Si utilizar una borra para corregir un error el papel se daña porque la tinta de la máquina mancha el papel, aún después de haber secado bien. Así que realizo el boceto del rostro de Mia Khalifa con un lápiz claro ya que no será necesario borrar las líneas.

After I made the sketch, I started using the pen. You can see how the face takes shape at first. When using the pen, mistakes in the strokes don't matter as much, since it's just a matter of using simple doodles; you just have to give the face its shape. Here you can see how I do the eyes, the glasses, and the lips.
Luego de que hice el boceto comencé a utilizar el bolígrafo, así se puede ver, como en una primera instancia el rostro va tomando forma, al utilizar el bolígrafo no importan tanto los errores en el trazo, ya que se trata de usar simples garabatos, solo hay que darle forma al rostro. Aquí se puede ver como hago los ojos, los lentes, y los labios.

Next, I begin adding some shading. As you can see, these are just loose strokes that don't follow a rhythm other than shading. When we zoom out, we can see how it's taking shape, especially in the eyes, since he's wearing glasses.
Seguidamente comienzo a dar algunas sombras, como pueden ver solo trazos sueltos que no siguen un ritmo más que dar sombra. Cuano nos alejamos del dibujo podemos ver como va tomando forma, especialmente en los ojos ya que tiene unos lentes puestos.

Once I've outlined the glasses, I don't use a pen to paint them, but instead use a fine-point marker. The reason is that the marker's ink is darker, and you can see the difference. While I continue to make more engravings at eye level, I immediately begin to incorporate part of the hair, using the same technique of using the pen strokes in a loose, unordered style.
Una vez que ya hecho la silueta de los lentes no utilizo el bolígrafo para pintarlo sino que busco el marcador punta fina, la razón es que la tinta del marcador es más oscura y se puede ver la diferencia. Mientras sigo haciendo más grabatos al nivel de los ojos, seguidamente también comienzo a incorporar parte del cabello, con la misma técnica de utilizar los trazos del bolígrafo con un estilo suelto y sin orden.

Once most of the face has the desired shape, I begin shading it so the volume and contrast can be better observed. Instead of just making traditional lines, we take the pen and make random circles and swirls, simply following the lines we've made so far. Then, with the hair, we also need to concentrate the strokes quite a bit to make it look as dark as possible. This completes the portrait.
Luego de que la mayor parte del rostro tenga la forma deseada comienzo a darle sombra para que el volumen y el contraste pueda observarse mejor. En lugar de hacer las rayas tradicionales solamente tomamos el bolígrafo y hacemos circulos y remolinos sin sentido, solamente siguiendo las líneas que se habían hecho hasta ahora. Luego en el cabello también hay que concentrar bastante los trazos para que se vea lo más oscuro posible. De esta manera quedó finalizado el retrato.

What did you think of the result? These kinds of drawings help me stay active and work as exercises, since the pencil can be moved in any direction, as the important thing is to fill in the shape. Also, the fact that the material is common paper makes it easier to obtain, so I can save the best quality paper. It also helps me master the shapes when making faces, and I can apply it to any size. ¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? Esta clase de dibujos me ayudan a mantenerme activo, y me funcionan como ejercicios ya que el lápiz puede moevrse de cualquier forma, ya que lo importante es rellenar para dar forma. También el hecho de que el material sea un papel muy corriente es más fácil de conseguir de manera que puedo ahorrar el papel de mejor calidad. También me ayuda a dominar más las formas al momento de hacer rostros y puedo aplicarlo al tamaño que sea.
