Hello dear friends of Hive DIY, I hope you're all doing well, especially with your imagination and creations. I want to share with you a trick I used to repair a pair of basketball shoes. The sole was in very poor condition, but the rest of the shoe was fine. To repair the sole, I used rubber I got from a car tire, which had been damaged. Here, I'll briefly explain the process through a series of images. It's an alternative that allows us to breathe life into shoes that are in good condition but have already lost their soles. Let's begin!
Hola queridos amigos de Hive Diy, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, especialmente imaginando y creando. Yo quiero compartir con ustedes un truco que utilicé para arreglar unos tenis de basketbal, los cuales tenían la suela en muy mal estado pero el resto del zapato estaba muy bien. Para arreglar la suela utilice goma de que obtuve de un neumático de carro, la cual se había dañado, aquí les voy a comentar brevemente a través de una serie de imagines como fue el proceso para lograr esto, es una alternativa que nos permite darle vida a aquellos zapatos que se encuentran en buen estado pero que ya han perdido la suela. To put this into context, the shoe is in good condition, the only drawback being the rubber covering the white foam sole. These shoes have an air chamber in the upper, due to all previous use. The rubber covering the air chamber deteriorated more quickly, causing the rest of the rubber to become damaged, making them unfit for play. This happened to both shoes; the goal is to replace the damaged rubber from the air chamber.
Para ponerlos en contexto, el zapato se encuentra en buen estado, el único detalle es la goma que recubría la suela de goma espuma blanca, estos zapatos traen una cámara de aire en la parte superior, por todo el uso anterior. De manera que la goma que cubre la cámara de aire se fue deteriorando más rápido lo que causo que se dañara el resto de la goma y ya no estuvieran aptos para jugar. Esto sucedió en ambos zapatos, el objetivo es reemplazar la goma dañada por coma de la cámara de caucho.

The first step, then, is to remove the damaged rubber. I try to remove it little by little because there are parts where it's already very damaged, and I want to get it out as best as possible, since I plan to use it as a template to later make the new rubber bands for the shoes. I remove both rubber bands and then begin sanding to remove all the remaining glue from the old rubber band. I do this on the bottom of the white sole. After removing as much of the old glue as possible, I washed the shoes thoroughly and then let them dry while I made the new rubber bands.
El primer paso entonces es retirar la goma dañada, trato de sacarla poco a poco porque hay partes donde ya esta muy deteriorada y me interesa sacarla lo mejor posible, ya que la pienso utilizar como una plantilla para luego hacer las gomas nuevas para los zapatos. Retiro ambas gomas y después de eso comienzo a lijar para quitar todo el resto de pegamento que tenía la goma vieja retirada, esto lo hago en la parte inferior de la suela blanca. Después de haber quitado la mayor cantidad posible de pegamento viejo lo que hice fue lavar los zapatos muy bien y luego poner a secar mientras elaboraba las nuevas gomas.

While the shoes were drying after washing them thoroughly, I took the rubber from the tire and cut it in half. I then cut out a large sheet of rubber that would allow me to remove the insoles. I took the old rubber from the shoes I had previously removed and used it as a template to draw the silhouette on the rubber and then cut it out with scissors. This process was the same one I used to extract the pair of rubbers I needed.
Mientras los zapatos se secaban luego de haberlos lavado muy bien, tomé la goma del neumático y la corte a la mitad para luego sacar un gran pliego de goma que me permitiera luego extraer de ella las plantillas. Lo que hice fue tomar la goma vieja de los zapatos que había quitado anteriormente y la usé como plantilla para dibujar la silueta sobre la goma y luego cortarla con una tijera. Este proceso fue el mismo que utilicé para extraer el par de gomas que necesitaba.

After the shoes were dry, I began sanding the sole again until it was very clean, with no traces of the previous glue. I also repaired the air chamber or the zoom system that these shoes have. To fix them, what I did was cut a couple of pieces of rubber the same size as the air chamber. I did this to be able to level it with the entire sole, since if I only put the air chamber in, the vacuum would feel empty, and stepping on it could cause foot problems due to those extra millimeters. Then I applied glue and let it dry while I prepared the rubber for the soles.
Luego de que los zapatos ya etsuvieran secos comence a lijar de nuevo la suela hasta dejarla muy limpia, sin restos del pegamento anterior, y también reparé la cámara de aire o el sistema zoom que tienen estas zapatillas. Para arreglarlas lo que hice fue cortar un par de piezas de gomas del mismo tamaño de la cámara de aire, esto lo hice para poder nivelar con toda la suela, ya que si solo ponía la cámara de aire se sentía el vacío, además de que al pisar podría generar problemas en el pie por esos milímetros que sobraban. Después les puse pegamento y deje secar mientras ahora preparaba las gomas para las suelas.

After cleaning and sanding the entire white part of the sole, I apply glue from top to bottom, thoroughly covering the entire area where the removed rubber was glued. I also apply glue to all the rubber that I can cut, but not before sanding the area where I would have applied the glue. Once the glue has dried completely, I proceed to join the rubber to the sole, working from the bottom to the toe, gradually so that the rubber is well glued and snug.
Luego de haber limpiado y lijado toda la parte blanca de la suela coloco pegamento desde arriba hasta abajo, hasta cubrir muy bien toda la zona donde estaba pegada la goma que había retirado. Así también pongo pegamento en toda la goma que puede cortar, no sin antes tambien haberla lijado por la parte donde pondría el pegamento. Una vez que haya secado muy bien el pegamento, procedo a unir la goma hacia la suela, lo voy haciendo desde la parte inferior hasta la punta, poco a poco para que la goma quede muy bien pegada y ajustada.

Next, I place the second elastic band on the other shoe, following the same process. It's important to apply the elastic band carefully, as if rolling out a carpet. This is how it should be done to avoid air bubbles or, worse yet, the elastic band sticking to the wrong place. So, I place the elastic band all the way to the toe. As you can see in the picture, you can see how it looks on the toes of the shoes; nothing went wrong.
Seguidamente también coloco la segunda goma en el otro zapato, siguiendo el mismo proceso, es importante ir poniendo la goma con cuidado, como si extendieramos una alfombra, así debe hacerse para que no queden burbujas de aire, o algo peor, como que la goma se pegue por donde no era. Así que voy colocando toda la goma hasta la punta. Como puieden notar en la imagen, se puede apreciar como se ven en la punta de los zapatos, nada salió mal.

What did you think of the result? Do you think this technique is a good idea? I'd like to tell you that months ago I tried it with other shoes I'd worn for sports, and the result was better than expected; the rubber adapted very well. That's why, knowing the mistakes and experience, I was able to improve my previous work and apply it to these shoes, which, as you can see, were still very worn. I hope you liked my explanation. ¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? ¿Les parece buena idea hacer esta técnica? les comento que hace meses atras probé con otros zapatos los cuales los llevé para hacer deporte y el resultado fue mejor de lo esperado, la goma se adaptó muy bien. Es por eso que conociendo ya los errores y la experiencia es como pude mejorar mi trabajo anterior para aplicarselo a estos zapatos que como pueden ver aun tenían mucho uso.
