Hello dear alien friends, greetings to all the artists who participate weekly in the Splinterlands weekly art contest, just like me. For this week, I've chosen the Dark Abortist card, a character that stood out to me. He has a huge mushroom for a hat and energy balls in his hands. While I was looking at it, I really liked the design, so I thought about giving it a terrifying appearance. I was inspired by some old movies, like Critters, which traumatized me as a childhood, hehe. So, I was inspired by his macabre smile to transfer it to Dark Abortists. Here in this post, I briefly explain the step-by-step process until it was finished.
Hola queridos amigos aliens, saludos para todos los artistas que semana a semana participan en el concurso de arte semanal de Splinterlands al igual que yo. Para esta semana he elegido la carta Dark Abortist, un personaje que se me hizo muy llamativo, que tiene un hongo enorme como sombrero y bolas de energías en sus manos. Mientras la observaba me gustó mucho el diseño, así que pensé en darle una apariencia aterradora, así que me inspiré en algunas antiguas películas, como Critters, que me traumaron en la infancia jejeje. Así que me inspiré en su macabra sonrisa para trasladarla a Dark Abortits, aquí en esta post les comento de forma breve como fue el paso a paso hasta finalizar.

I made a sketch on a piece of white cardstock, letter-sized. I simply used a very light graphite pencil to create the sketch so it could be painted more easily later. As you can see, I started with the face, which I drastically changed to give it a different look, especially a horror look, as I mentioned before, inspired by Critters.
Hice un boceto en una cartulina e color blanco, tamaño de hoja carta, utilicé simplemente un lápiz de grafito muy claro para hacer el boceto y que se pudiera pintar luego de una mejor manera. Como pueden observar, he comenzado por el rostro, el cual he cambiado drásticamente para darle otra apariencia, especialmente de terror, como había mencionado antes, inspirado en Critters.

Next, I painted the face in a pale, slightly bluish gray while adding some dark expression lines to highlight its terrifying visage. I made the eyes larger, like those of an alien, and painted them a light green so they stood out well on the face. The predominant color in Dark Abortist is blue, so I gradually painted the hair with several different layers of blue.
Seguidamente estuve pintando el rostro con un color gris pálido algo azulado mientras que agrego algunas líneas de expresión algo oscuras para resaltar su aterrador rostro. Los ojos los hice más grandes, como los de un alienígena, los cuales pinte de un verde claro para que puedan resaltar muy bien en el rostro. El color predominante en Dark Abortist es el azul, así que poco a poco voy pintando el cabello con varias capas diferentes de tono azul.

The next step was to paint the top. I call it a hat, but I don't actually know if the character is a mushroom that turned into a human. Beyond that, what I did was paint with the colored pencils I was using on the hair, so I started with one shade and added a much darker shade, also accompanied by flashes of purple toward the sides. This creates an incredible contrast while giving a shiny effect.
Después, el siguiente paso fue pintar la parte superior, yo digo que es un sombrero, pero en realidad no sé si el personaje es un hongo que se convirtió en humano. Más allá de eso, lo que hice fue pintar con los lápices de color que estaba utilizando en el cabello, así que comencé por un tono y agregando un tono mucho más oscuro acompañado también por destellos de color púrpura hacia los lados, esto hace dar un contraste increíble mientras que da un efecto de brillo.

Then I start adding more details, especially the arms. Of course, I paint part of his clothes, which have the style of a forest wizard, or someone related to magic, since he has a bag and also a cape. As for the arms, I paint them very differently from the original design, and I make the hands larger with claws on the fingers, where he holds the small energy balls. I have painted these energy balls with a very light turquoise green color, and the inside of the sphere with blue, so you can notice the sphere effect. The difference is that I have added flashes of energy that come out of the ball.
Luego comienzo agregar más detalles, especialmente los brazos, por supuesto voy pintanto parte de sus ropajes, los cuales tienen el estilo de un mago del bosque, o de alguien relacionado a la magia, ya que posee un bolso y también una capa. En cuanto los brazos los pinto muy diferentes al diseño original, y las manos las hago más grandes cn garras en los dedos, donde sostiene las pequeñas bolas de energía. Estas bolas de energía las he pintado con un color verde turquesa muy claro, y en el interior de la esfera con color azul, así se puede notar el efecto esfera, la diferencia es que he agegrado destellos de energía que van saliendo de la bola.

After coloring the entire drawing, I do something very simple, something I always do with all my illustrations: blend the colors. How do I do this? Nothing fancy, just a brush—any brush you can use—dip it in mineral oil and gradually brush it over the entire painted area. After the colors are mixed, this allows us, if desired, to apply more layers of color and enhance the contrast of the drawing. Finally, with a fine-point black marker, I begin to outline all the edges of the drawing, and that's it.
Después de haber coloreado todo el dibujo lo que hago es algo muy simple y que siempre le aplico a todas mis ilustraciones: difuminar los colores. ¿Como hago esto? pues nada del otro mundo, solamente un pincel, puede ser el que sea y remonarlo en aceite mineral, y poco a poco ir pasandolo por toda la zona pintada. Luego de que los colores se mezclan esto permite, si así lo deseamos, volver aplicar más capas de colores y hacer que el contraste del dibujo sea mejor. Por último, con un marcador punta fina de color negro, comienzo a delinear todos los bordes del dibujo, y de esta forma queda finalizado.
FINAL WORK
After outlining the drawing, you can see how the claws stand out on his hands and each finger. This is something I didn't want to overlook. I also tried to outline the teeth very well because I wanted them to be noticeable at first glance, and it's a way to give the character a new essence. What did you think? Luego de delinear el dibujo pueden observar como en sus manos y en cada dedo sobresalen las garras, esto es algo que no quería dejar pasar por alto. Tambien en los dientes, traté de delinearlos muy bien porque queria que se notaran a simple vista, y es la forma de dar una nueva esencia al personaje. ¿Qué les ha parecido? ¿Alguna vez se han inspirado en alguna criatura del cine para hacer un fan art?
