Hello my dear friends of Splinterlands and also all the aliens of this great community, it is a pleasure for me to greet you and tell you that I want to share my participation this week for the 364 Splinterlands contest. For this opportunity I have focused especially on the Gobalano Soldier card, a demonic being but with a gangster appearance, I really liked the fusion that his character has, he comes out dressed like the old mafia families but he is armed with a baseball bat with barbed wire around it, undoubtedly a bad guy. I have done my drawing with colored markers, especially I wanted to achieve a style inspired by DC comics, so here I leave you with my work of today, I hope you like it.
Hola mis queridos amigos de Splinterlands y también todos los aliens de esta gran comunidad, es un placer para mi poder saludarles y decirles que quiero compartir mi participación de esta semana para el concurso 364 de Splinterlands. Para esta oportunidad me he fijado especialmente en la carta Gobalano Soldier, un ser de demoníaco pero con una apariencia de gangster, me gustó mucho la fusión que tiene su personaje, sale vestido como las antiguas familias de la mafia pero esta armado con un bat de béisbol que tiene alambre de púas alrededor, sin duda un chico malo. Mi dibujo lo he realizado con marcadores de colores, especialmente quería lograr un estilo inspirado en los comics de DC, así que aquí los dejo con mi trabajo del día de hoy, espero que les guste.

For this drawing, I used white Canson cardstock, which is great for marker drawings as it absorbs alcohol very well. For the rough sketch, I used a very light-tipped pencil so I could see the sketch and outline with darker pencils, or if necessary, erase the lines. I didn't use lines to guide me, but I did the model directly, part by part, starting with the face.
Utilicé para este dibujo una cartulina de color blanco llamada Canson, muy buena para dibujos con marcador ya que absorbe muy bien el alcohol. Para el boceto del dibujo utilicé lápiz de punta muy clara que permita ver el boceto y delinear con algo más oscuros, o si se debe borrar las líneas. Lo hice líneas para guiarme sino que hice el modelo directamente parte por parte, comenzando por el rostro.

To paint the first part of my drawing, I'll start using a black pen. I haven't used this type of material for drawing in many years. The process is as follows: first, I draw the lines of the shape of the drawing with quick strokes. Then, when it comes to shading for contrast, I draw oblique lines, one after the other. This is the style used in comics, especially in the 70s and 80s, a style I've always liked.
Para pintar la primera parte de mi dibujo comenzaré utilizando un bolígrafo de color negro, tengo muchísimos años sin utilizar esta clase de material para dibujar. El proceso es el siguiente: en primer lugar voy haciendo las lineas de la forma del dibujo con trazos rápidos, luego cuando se trata de dar sombra para el contraste, hago líneas oblicuas, una tras otra, es el estilo que se usa en las historietas de comics, especialmente en los 70 y 80, un estilo que siempre me gusto.

So I outline the entire face, carefully highlighting the expression lines so as not to lose that macabre look with an equally disturbing smile. I add an even more terrifying detail to the hat: extra eyes that protrude, adorned with a pair of horns. The result can be seen a bit with the shadows drawn through the oblique lines.
Así voy delineando todo el rostro, resaltando muy bien las líneas de expresión para que no se pierda esa mirada macabra que posee una sonrisa igual de perturbadora. Agrego a parte del sombrero un detalle aun mas aterrador, y son unos ojos extras que sobresalen adornados con un par de cuernos. Con las sombras realizadas a través de los trazos de líneas oblicuas puede verse un poco el resultado.

After finishing the head, I begin outlining all the edges of the drawing, making the lines simply with the ballpoint pen. Then I switch to another type of pencil. Here, I use a very fine-tipped black marker, as I want to begin outlining the shadows throughout the drawing, as I want the result to be like a comic. So, with this marker, I begin making the lines smaller, and then, when the shadow is larger, I switch to a marker with a wider tip to cover more of the drawing.
Después comienzo a delinear todos los bordes del dibujo al instante de haber terminado con la cabeza, hago las líneas simplemente con el bolígrafo. Luego voy cambiando hacia otro tipo de lápiz, aquí utilizo un marcador negro de punta muy fina, ya que me interesa comenzar a delinear las sombras en todo el dibujo ya que quiero que el reusltado sea como el de un comic. Así con este marcador voy haciendo las líneas que serían más pequeñas, ya luego cuando la sombra es más grande cambio a un marcador con una punta más ancha para cubrir más porción del dibujo.

Last but not least, I add color. I respect the character's essence by using colors somewhat similar to the original design. As for the face, I paint with a layer of very light red marker, then add more contrast with a red crayon. The result looks great when mixed. To add more contrast to the shadows on the face, I use colors like purple and blue. Next, I start adding green to the hat and the rest of his clothing, except for the vest, which is an ochre yellow. After painting and mixing, this is how my drawing ended.
Por último y no menos importante es agregar el color, así que respeto la esencia del personaje al utilizar los colores algo parecidos al diseño original. En cuanto al rostro voy pintando con una capa de marcador rojo muy claro, el cual voy agregando más contraste con color de cera rojo, y el resultado se ve genial cuando se mezclan, ya para agregar más contraste en las sombras del rostro utilizo colores como púrpura y azul. Seguidamente comienzo agregar verde en el sobrero y en el resto de su ropa, a excepción del chaleco que va de un color amarillo ocre. Luego de pintar y mezclar así es como ha terminado mi dibujo.

And what do you think? Did you like the final result? I think mixing the alcohol markers with the wax crayons was brilliant; the fusion of both materials created a better-than-expected contrast. With mixtures like this, the result is always great, in addition to the comics' drawing style. One of my greatest references when it comes to this drawing style is artist Jim Lee, one of the best in the world. His work is impressive, especially when he draws Batman. I hope you liked this version I made of Gobalano; I was very inspired to achieve this result. For now, I'll say goodbye, and I'll see you soon.
¿Y ustedes que opinan? ¿Les gustró el resultado final? creo que mezclar los marcadores de alcohol con los lápices de colores de cera fue algo genial, la fusión entre ambos materiales hizo que el contraste fuera mejor de lo esperado. Con mezclas así el reusltado siempre es grandioso, además de la forma de dibujar que tienen los comics. Una de mis mayores referencias en cuanto a este estilo de dibujo es el artista Jim Lee, uno de los mejores a nivel mundial, sus trabajos son impresionantes, especialmente cuando dibuja a Batman. Espero que les haya gustado esta versión que hice de Gobalano, me inspiré mucho para lograr este resultado. Por ahora me despido y será hasta pronto.
