Hello dear friends, good evening, I hope all the artists and artisans of this beautiful Jewelry community are doing well. It's my honor to be here again and be able to share a new creation. The latest Superman movie was recently released, and one of the things I liked was the new design of the Man of Steel's shield, a simple design but one that conveys a lot, although in the current film they wanted to give it a new meaning. It is well known that this symbol has always represented Hope, the symbol of Kal-El's family. I made this symbol in the shape of a keychain, using carved wood. Next, I want to share with you how the process was until completing this piece, let's begin!
Hola queridos amigos, buenas noches, espero que se encuentren muy bien todos los artistas y artesanos de esta bella comunidad de Jewelry, es para mi honor estar por aquí de nuevo y poder compartir una nueva creación. Hace poco se estrenó la última película de Superman, y una de las cosas que me gustó fue el nuevo diseño del escudo del hombre de acero, un diseño simple pero que transmite mucho, aunque en la película actual quisieron darle un nuevo significado, para todos es sabido que ese símbolo siempre ha representado a la Esperanza, símbolo de la familia de Kal-El. He realizado este símbolo con forma de llavero, utilizando madera tallada, a continuación quiero compartir con ustedes como fue el proceso hasta culminar esta pieza, comencemos!

How did I start making this figure? It's very easy. First, I select the wood. I used a piece that measures 3.5 millimeters on each side and is also 5 millimeters thick. Once I've cleaned both sides of the piece, I use a ruler to draw the outer part of Superman's shield, which is shaped like a diamond. Then I draw the inner part, which for us is an "S," but in the language of the planet Krypton, it means hope.
¿De qué manera comencé a hacer esta figura? pues muy fácil, en primer lugar seleccionar la mader,a utilicé un trozo de madera que mide 3,5 milímetros por cada uno de sus lados y también tiene 5 milímetros de espesor. Una vez que he limpiado ambas caras de la pieza, con una regla comienzo a dibujar la parte exterior del escudo de Superman, el cual tiene forma de un diamante. Después voy dibujando la parte interior, que para nosotros es una "S" pero en el lenguaje del plantea Krypton significa esperanza.

Once the piece of wood and the drawing are ready, it's time to start carving. I select two blades that are the right size for carving the wood and the small lines. As always, I start from the inside of the wood and finish with the outer edges. So, with the smaller of the blades, I mark the line, sinking the tip as deep as possible. Then, with the flat-tipped blade, I extract the wood.
Una vez lista la pieza de madera y el dibujo es momento de empezar a tallar la madera, selecciono 2 cuchillas que tienen un tamaño adecuado para poder tallar la madera y los trazos pequeños. Como siempre comienzo desde el interior de la madera y por último los bordes exteriores. Así con la más pequeña d elas cuchillas voy marcando el trazo hundiendo la punta lo más que sea pueda, después con la cuchilla de punta plana voy extrayendo la madera.

I then switch to a sharper blade, since when you reach a certain limit, roughly halfway through, you have to push the tip of the knife back in again, just like at the beginning, to be able to carve the wood. This process is repeated as many times as necessary, especially until the tip of the knife has passed through the other side of the piece. Once this has happened, the softer wood is gradually removed until the entire hole can be seen.
Despues voy cambiando hacia una cuchilla más puntiaguda, ya que cuando se llega a un límite, más o menos hacia la mitad, hay que volver a hundir la punta de la navaja como al principio para poder luego tallar la madera. Este proce se repite las veces que sea suficiente, especialmente hasta que la punta de la navaja haya trapasado el lado contrario de la pieza. Una vez que esto haya sucedido, de va retirando poco a poco la madera que ya está mas suave hasta que por completo se fueda ver a través del agujero.

Now I continue with the lower part of the piece. Although it has traces of straight lines, there are some small curves at the intersections. These parts are very difficult to carve, so I try to do it with the knife as far as the blade allows. I repeat the entire previous process until I go through the wood and dig a small hole that can be seen on the opposite side.
Ahora continuo con la aprte inferior de la pieza, aunque tiene trazos de líneas rectas, en las interesecciones hay unas pequeñas curvas, estas partes son muy difíciles de tallar, así que procuro hacerlo con la navaja hasta donde la hoja me lo permita. Repito todo el proceso anterior hasta traspasar la madera y cavar un pequeño agujero que pueda ser visibles hacia el lado contrario.

Next, it's time to cut and carve the outer edges. To do this, I use flat-tipped knives, which are very useful for drawing straight lines. I press the knife along the drawn line and then carve the wood until each side gradually becomes visible.
Seguidamente toca cortar y tallar los bordes exteriores, para ello voy utilizando las cuchillas d epunta plana, muy utiles para trazos de líneas rectas. Voy hundiendo la cuchilla por la línea dibujada y luego voy tallando la madera hasta que vaya quedando poco a poco visible cada uno de los lados.

Finally, I begin sanding with very fine sandpaper, both the outside and inside where the openings were made, polishing until the piece is very smooth and even. Finally, I apply a coat of varnish and the key chain, and that's how the symbol of Hope is.
Por último comienzo a lijar con una lija muy suave, tanto por la parte exterior como el interior donde fueron hechas las aberturas, voy puliendo hasta que la pieza haya quedado muy suave y lisa. Por último le pongo un baño de barniz y la cadena para el llavero, y así quedó el símbolo de la Esperanza.
FINAL WORK
What did you think of the result? The symbol of hope has undergone many changes over the decades, with each comic book artist adding some detail that, over time, became special. Let's not forget that Superman was born during a difficult time for humanity: the First World War, then the Great Depression of '29. All of this led the creators of Superman to devise a symbol that would fill the people of that era with hope. Today, we also live in dark times of war and despair, but we must continue to hold on to hope, like the Man of Steel. That's all for now, friends. I hope you enjoyed my contribution. ¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? El símbolo de la esperanza ha pasado por muchos cambios a través de las décadas, cada dibujante de cómic le agregaba algun detalle que con el tiempo se iba tornando especial. No olvidemos que Superman nació en una época difícil de la humanidad, la primera guerra mundial, luego la gran depresión del 29, todo eso llevó a los cereadores de Superman a idear un símbolo que llenara de esperanza a las personas de aquella época. Hoy en la actualidad tambien vivimos épocas oscuras de guerra y desesperación, pero hay que seguir conservando la eseranza como el hombre de acero.
