This time I have made a keychain with the figure of a horse, but not just any horse, but a chess piece. I chose this figure for several reasons. The main one is because I like horses, and secondly because I see hair as a metaphor for the decisions that must be made in the most important moments of life. The horse is the only piece that does not move in a straight line and can jump over other pieces. Its "L"-shaped movement makes it unpredictable and difficult to block. Just as the horse jumps over other pieces, man can face life's obstacles (problems, failures, adversities) not head-on, but by seeking an alternative path. This metaphor teaches us not to give up in the face of obstacles, but to be creative and find unexpected solutions. With this idea in mind, I made this keychain, not simply for the art or creativity, but to share an idea that seems simple but would be very helpful. Here's a brief explanation of how I made this keychain. I hope you like it.

En esta oportunidad he realizado un llavero con la figura de un caballo, pero no cualquier caballo sino una pieza de ajedrez, he elegido esta figura por varias razones, la princupal es porque me gustan los caballos y segundo lugar porque veo en el cabello una metáfora acerca de las decisiones que se deben tomar en los momentos más importantes de la vida. El caballo es la única pieza que no se mueve en línea recta y que puede saltar sobre otras piezas, su movimiento en forma de "L" lo hace impredecible y difícil de bloquear. Así como el caballo salta sobre las demás piezas, el hombre puede enfrentar los obstáculos de la vida (problemas, fracasos, adversidades) no de forma frontal, sino buscado un camino alternativo. Esta metáfora nos enseña a no darnos por vencidos ante las barreras, sino a ser creativos y a encontrar soluciones inesperadas. Con esta idea en mente es que he realizado este llavero, no simplemente por el arte o creatividad, sino por el hecho de compartir una idea que parece simple pero que nos ayudaría mucho. I cut a piece of wood measuring 3 centimeters wide by 4.5 centimeters high and centimeters thick. This size is enough to make a striking piece. Then I made the silhouette of the horse. Instead of drawing directly, I made a paper template that I then cut out and used to draw on top of the wood. I didn't draw directly because I wanted the lines to be perfect, and doing it directly would risk something not looking right.
Corté una pieza de madera con un tamaño de 3 centímetros de ancho por 4,5 centímetros de alto y con centímetros de grosor, con este tamaño es suficiente para hacer una pieza que sea llamativa. Después hice la silueta del caballo, en lugar de dibujar directamente hice una plantilla de papel que luego recorté y la utilicé para dibujar encima de la madera, no hice el dibujo directamente porque quería que los trazos me quedaran perfectos, y al hacerlo directamente corría el riesgo de que algo no quedara bien.

As you can see, I drew the horse's silhouette in profile. I did this because for these types of pieces, I always prefer to start with this area of the wood; it makes it easier for me to cut and carve each part I've drawn. The direction of the wood also helps a lot, so the blades work better. So you can see how I start at the top of the head and work my way down almost to the base. Little by little, I carve this entire section, and in the end, you can see how the piece comes together.
Como pudieron observar, la silueta del caballo la dibujé de perfil, esto lo hice porque para este tipo de piezas siempre prefiero comenzar por esta zona de la madera, se me hace más fácil cortar y tallar cada parte que he dibujado. También ayuda mucho el sentido de la madera, para que las cuchillas trabajen mejor. Así pueden observar como comienzo en la parte superior de la cabeza y voy bajando casi hasta la base, poco a poco voy tallando toda esta parte y al final puede observarse como va saliendo la pieza.

Now the carving shifts to the other end of the profile, almost to the front side. Here you can see how I carve the wood, first sinking the blade into the wood and then cutting horizontally, so that the entire section I marked at the beginning is removed. I do this entire process by following and marking the drawing of the horse, which is how the horse piece looks up to this point.
Ahora el trabajo del tallado cambiá hacia el otro extremo del perfil, casi del lado del frente. Aquí pueden ver como voy tallando la madera, en primer lugar hundiendo la hoja de la cuchilla en la madera y luego cortando de forma horizontal, así toda la parte que marqué al inicio es extraída. Todo este proceso lo hago siguiendo y marcando el dibujo del caballo, así queda hasta este punto la pieza del caballo.

The piece is largely finished, however, the front part is still missing: shaping the head to make it look like a real horse. So I draw the horse's frontal silhouette, and now the work is reversed: cutting off the excess parts at each end. So here I use the smallest wood carving gouges, since the cut is small and helps a lot with the small details of the face. Finally, you can see how the horse's ears look. I made these very carefully, since it's very easy for the wood to give way and break.
La pieza está en un gran porcentaje terminada, sin embargo, falta la parte frontal de la pieza, darle forma a la cabeza y que parezca un verdadero caballo. Así que dibujo la silueta de frente del caballo y ahora el trabajo es invertido, a cortar las partes sobrantes de cada extremo. Así que aquí utilizo las gubias para tallar madera, de las más pequeñas ya que el corte es pequeño y ayuda muchísimo con los pequeños detalles en cuanto al rostro. Por último pueden ver como quedan las orejas dle caballo, estas las hice con mucho cuidado ya que es muy fácil que la madera ceda y se rompa.

After carving the front of the piece, you can see how it's turning out. I was honestly impressed because it was so small; I never imagined it would turn out this way. I also shaped the base, making it square instead of square. Then I began sanding the piece until it was polished. While doing this, I also added small details to the face to give it more realism. Once the piece was finished, all that was left was to apply a protective varnish for a more beautiful finish.
Después de haber tallado el frente de la pieza se puede apreciar como va quedando la pieza, la verdad que estaba impresionado porque el tamaño era realmente pequeño, no imaginé que me quedaría de esta forma. También le di forma a la base la cual la hice cuadrada en lugar de hacerla cuadrada, después comencé a lijar la pieza hasta dejarla bien pulida, mientras hacia eso también iba haciendo pequeños detalles del rostro para darle más realismo. Una vez terminada la pieza solo quedaba ponerle barniz protector para un acabado más hermoso.

Although I finished it at night and the light isn't the same, you can appreciate the beauty of the wood with the varnish. Unlike the rook or the bishop, which rely on the power of distance, the knight's strength lies in agility and cunning. In my view, this represents tactical intelligence, adaptability, and flexibility. So, we can learn a lot when we use our creativity to reflect and philosophize about simple things in life, but which would help us greatly to understand them from the most basic point of view.
