Another one managed to hide along the fence yesterday morning but thankfully it didn't go all Akira, or I caught it just as it was starting to morph. I could hear cries of "Tetsuo!!!" gently from the plants as I shuffled through in search of more squash.
The cucumbers are in fast forward now and are giving me 20+ a day at the moment. The peppers are coming out great and the flesh is thick and juicy on them.
So I asked AI and seems the hornets are after the honeydew from the aphids.
Which helps explain the ladybugs and other insects roaming the tree.
Vespa crabro, the common North American Hornet.
Mid day I headed up the hill to take a wander around the fence line and to scour for feathers. SO, I got to the base of the eagle's nest tree and looked down to find THIS! There were Great Horned Owl pellets on the ground. This was the first one I saw.
I then started really looking and then found a slew of them littering the ground.
And I found my feather!
The rather astonishing part of it to me is that the owls perch on the bald eagle's tree at night. I presume WHILE they are in the nest above given the age of some of the pellets.
I at first had to question if the eagles were hacking them up but NO, only owls do that. So it HAD to be owls. A couple were really big, nearly 4 inches long and almost 2 inches wide. I piled them all at the base of the tree then kept on my walk.
I make sure to check the fence line regularly in case coyotes are about.
As I climbed over the inner fence in the pen I caught sight of this little spider clinging to the wire.
R got home from school and after he had his snack we went back up the hill so I could gather up the pellets. R's teacher last year collects skulls, wasp nests, bones, etc so I am sending them with him for her to take what she wants, if she wants.
Our kitchen drawers that hold our silverware had fallen into pieces, actual pieces. After swapping out for a good lower one I found my wood glue and gave the broken drawer a good coating in hopes that it will regain a bit of function. It only needs to hold light stuff now so this morning it should be good to go back in.
The leeks are big and fat and I grabbed a couple for our potato leek soup dinner.
@stryeyz got another one to add.
Early in the day I had set the print to go and it took 9 hours for it to finish. It is a climbing training hold that ties up with paracord. It needed to be strong so it took a while. I need to rip the raft off the back and sand it down.
After dinner we got out to soak for a while.
Then this morning at 2:15 am a thunderstorm came rolling through that blasted a boom nearly right over the farm that woke me up. It dumped a bit of rain as it sped past. I could hear the thunder still as it was miles away from us.
More storms around this morning with it just now booming thunder, will get boys to school soon, wash my clothes, go to my chiro appointment, call about getting a load of hay delivered, keep at the truck and the garden.
