The days getting shorter and the sun rising later is our draw down into Fall now and for once the garden is nearly finished for the year. Between the black hole mass of weight the truck repair felt like and the weight of the garden season both now GREATLY diminished I just might be able to have a more mellow winter.
8am I was on the road to town. The stores opened then and I gave them a bit to open up.
It feels SO DAMN GOOD to be back driving my truck.
I was home in time to see the Utd game which kicked off really funny with a red card for Chelsea goalie 4 minutes in.
My trip to town was to Horizon for the drain tube and then to Harbor Freight for the truck rack. This is going to work KILLER when mounted to the bed.
Utd managed to eek out the win after going down a man to make it 10 on 10. They won 2-1.
My bird tomato on the plant in the greenhouse.
No squash but the greenhouse put out some.
The rack has verticals that I needed to cut down so it won't sit too high, plus I need the shorter pieces for now.
A KC-135 was out doing training laps to the west and on its way back to land at the base came flying right over the farm at about 2-3000 ft agl, and the thing was LOUD!
The vertical parts all got a little under 6" hacked off the end.
Which all got deburred. I found that I don't have the right size tap for the holes so will pick that up today on my way home from our job.
Not often the chipmunks get this close to the house, they normally stay a bit farther off.
At Harbor Freight I got a few cases and the pelican is getting used for the magnet fishing kit.
Fits it all quite nice and neat.
It was the afternoon when I got out to the truck to fix the exhaust which was a bit of a process.
Not a lot of room to work but enough.
I got the right side manifold off and took it to the shop to remove the broken studs.
The mating surface looked like shit.
Drilled the studs out and accidentally broke one bit in the process.
Then the cleaning of the surfaces.
I managed to find 4 Grade 8 bolts the correct size in my slew of parts. Now instead of shitty studs holding the exhaust I have nice burly bolts. I started it up and it sounded GORGEOUS!!!! It sounded totally correct now.
While under the truck I noticed there is a leak... As I shone the light all around I ended up finding it. The metal oil cooler line for the transmission got moved too much in the rebuilds and got a hole in it. So the metal pipes will be removed and I will install rubber tubing in its place.
The sun was going down and we wanted to see the sunset but had to hurry to get up the hill in time and we just barely made it.
Against the fence was this eagle feather.
Just wild how fluffy and light it is, goes to show how the birds stay warm in the cold temps.
Out to soak for a while after a much needed shower.
Today the boys and I go spend a few hours removing and installing new drain lines in the morning, will get harvests done, it is likely to rain today so I have to make sure my tools are all put under cover, then this evening is Doug Stanhope comedy show.
