Power, Snake, PT, Harvest, Truck Rack Finished, Topper Install, ATF Flush, Building, Wiring - Tuesday

Yesterday morning was wild. 5:30am a wreck happened about 5 miles north off the highway on a side road. The call took responders 20 minutes to deal with. Then at 8 am the power for the house suddenly went off. Apparently someone had taken out a power pole and Avista had to shut the system down to restring the lines.

So the power went out and the house went silent. I then heard a crunching sound from behind the dos' bed and found a mouse in the wall chewing on it. I ran down the basement stairs to get a mouse trap and looked to see THIS!!!!!

A FUCKING SNAKE got caught in the mouse trap as it chased a mouse that also got caught in a trap. WTF!?!?! I have NEVER seen this before!!! It is well dried so it's been there a while and shows how little I pay attention going down the stairs.

I had PT so off to town with R who had an appointment. @stryeyz took him while I had my PT.

Then I picked him up and we stopped at North 40 for the bolts for the rack for the truck.

Out picking in the greenhouse my bird tomato is looking more bird like with the coloring.

And I got a smaller amount picked.

Working on the rack I had to drill the holes in the plates.

IMG_20250923_105622.jpg

Then used those holes as guides to drill the holes in the rail.

IMG_20250923_110114.jpg

Before long I had the rack locked in place. It's really strong and also removable with the 8 bolts.

The topper slid on nicely and I ended up having to get a bit creative with mounting it. The topper has U bolts that are supposed to go around the bars and through the bottom but they didn't fit. So I took the supports from the rack and pulled the knobs out and the square that slides in the channel of the rack. I drilled out the center holes in the metal plates and then fixed the topper down.

My bike fits PERFECTLY!. Like EXACTLY. I have it locked to the rack and it will ride along super.

IMG_20250923_123008.jpg

Barely can see the topper over the cab, just how I want it.

I have ample space in the bed still beneath the rack.

I'm taking my magnet fishing kit with me and I found more loose magnets that I made another setup myself.

Shackles, magnets, and the rope fit right on top perfectly.

OMG the right tool is the BEST!!!! It was around 2pm when the ATF pump delivered and I right away got it setup. HOLY SHIT was this easy compared to how I tried to do it. So easy, fast, and I got the transmission nicely topped off with fresh clean fluid.

My OBD tester needed to be mounted and I tried a bit of velcro but it didn't like the plastic of the truck so I grabbed a magnet from an old hard drive and screwed it down.

The unit sit perfectly and is easily reachable to turn it on while driving.

IMG_20250923_145511.jpg

Out for a test drive to make sure the trans was feeling good and saw the odometer turn 169069.

I was amazed to see the hoe tearing the building down. So long Chattaroy Hills restaurant building. It was condemned essentially for years and everyone who tried to use it got stopped by codes and the county.

It took me WAY too long to figure out the wire. I hacked down the extension cord and used the good part of it for the truck. I coupled one end to the battery and the other end I have plugs on that will connect to the solar panel setup. I have the wire stored in the corner by the master cylinder so I can pull it out and plug it in when needed.

I'm hoping the Sapphire mine is open so I can stop by and get more bags and see about faceting of our gems. Or the ones that would be worth it...

Out to soak for a while before a much needed sleep.

Today I have the last bits to do on the truck, finish packing and gathering all my things to take with. I need to make lists for the farm stuff to do, wash my clothes, build the solar/battery setup, reset the chicken coop door at 7am, and I have a lesson this morning to do.
