they say the greatest part of memory is the ability to forget. I never forget anything. every slight, every backhanded comment, every broken heart, they're always there in the back of my mind, taunting me. this poem is about that. thanks for reading!

Ghosts That Haunt
Memories are not pleasant things, they exist to shame and spite. Ghosts that live to haunt my world, In the day and dead of night. They linger at the street corners, and inside of every store. They haunt the areas I go for peace, even inside my door. The memories of the ones I loved, and all the times I’ve cried. The bridge that my brother drove off, and that spot I nearly died. The place where she took her life, and the bed that we once shared. Memories of every time she held me, and told me that she cared. Memories of the one before her, who almost made me wild. The place I stood when I got the call, she had killed my unborn child. Even the pleasant times, all the laughter with people I’d share, Now only serve to laugh at me, in my loneliness and despair. Yes, memories may be pleasant for some, maybe even for many. But for me, they are just ghosts that haunt, who keep me from serenity.
