These days I'm watching the country I live in burn without anyone doing anything. Luckily for me, my area isn't affected at the moment. But that doesn't make it any less painful to see what's happening.

This is happening all over the Mediterranean, from one end to the other, regardless of the country or how rich or poor it is. Fires aren't put out by firefighters, planes, or trucks. When a fire has a perimeter of 140 km, it's impossible to stop it unless you have firebreaks. These days I keep seeing people complaining and demanding resources to fight the fire. They won't do any good. We all know this; I was taught it as a child. A fire goes out before it starts; once it's on the rise, all that's left to do is take shelter and wait. With all this, I mean that it's in winter that we must prepare for summer. Like a farmer who prepares the land in winter, plants in spring, and harvests the fruit in summer. This is exactly the same. And don't expect your government, whether rich or poor, democracy or dictatorship. They won't help you; they only help themselves. If you want your house to stay warm, protect it as much as you can. And do it in winter.
