Hoy quiero comentarles, sobre algo que no solo habla del punto de vista religioso, sino que trasciende al núcleo formador de la sociedad: nuestra familia y la comunidad.
La tradición de la celebración de la Virgen del Valle, nace en mi comunidad por el siglo pasado (ujum, en los 90 😊) De la mano de un señor que ya partió. Él iba de vereda en vereda, haciendo la peregrinación con esta imagen y año tras año nos fuimos perfeccionando en el arte de celebrar las fiestas.
Recuerdo que todo era una competencia; quién decoraba la mejor vereda, quién ofreció mejor comida o atención, quién llevaba mejores grupos musicales, y no es por nada, pero mi vereda siempre quedaba bien posicionada en los primeros lugares, porque todos eran jóvenes, nosotros los niños que participábamos en todo, y había bonanza, es decir, como cubrir todos los gastos de decoración, comida, bebida y amenización de la velada.
Mi madre quedó con esa tradición y cada año, le toca a una vereda distinta celebrar la virgen, pero cuando toca acá, mi mamá quiere destacar en todo lo que se ofrece.
Dear community, I hope everyone is doing well. Today, I want to talk to you about something that not only speaks from a religious point of view but transcends the foundational core of society: our family and community. The tradition of celebrating the Virgin of the Valley was born in my community around the last century (uhm, in the 90s 😊) alongside a gentleman who has since passed away. He would go from street to street, making the pilgrimage with this image, and year after year we improved at the art of celebrating the festivities.
I remember it was all a competition; who decorated the best street, who offered the best food or service, who brought the best musical groups, and it’s no coincidence, but my street always ranked well among the top spots because everyone was young, us kids participating in everything, and there was abundance, meaning we managed to cover all the expenses for decoration, food, drinks, and entertainment for the evening. My mother kept that tradition and each year, a different neighborhood takes its turn to celebrate the virgin, but when it’s our turn, my mom wants to stand out in everything that is offered.
Aparte de todo lo que mencioné, creo que es una de las pocas vírgenes que se visten; se les hacen trajes ofrecidos como promesas de salud o agradecimiento y a la calle que le toca la virgen, se estila que "la vista".
Nosotros en la vereda hemos donado 4 vestidos: dos de mi madre y dos de mis vecinas. Antes yo lo veía como algo ostentoso, pero cuando tú ves a la madre de Dios, luciendo esas creaciones, como que su rostro cambia y agradece el gesto. Se me eriza la piel.
Lo digo con propiedad y basamento, porque soy yo la encargada de vestir a la virgen. En la época de la pandemia, yo la traje por un año a mi hogar y mes a mes, buscaba sus vestidos, los arreglaba y siempre la tenía muy bonita, elegante, para su rosario y veneración, por todo aquel que quisiera venir a casa a contemplarla.
Aside from everything I've mentioned, I believe she is one of the few virgins that get dressed; they are given outfits as promises of health or gratitude, and in the street where the virgin is honored, it is customary to 'visit' her. We in the neighborhood have donated 4 dresses: two from my mother and two from my neighbors. Este año, tocó en mi vereda, realizar la fiesta principal. Les conté que fui a buscar las telas, y de mí se apoderaron pensamientos negativos que no estaban acordes con la devoción de mi madre. Ella viene saliendo de un proceso postoperatorio traumático y en agradecimiento de su intersección, se encargó de hacer el vestido.
Lo mandó a hacer tan exacto como el vestido que lució el año pasado la Virgen ubicada en la Catedral de Barcelona. Ella conoce al modisto encargado, y se pusieron manos a la obra.
Por cuestiones de logística, debía vestirla el día anterior, pero terminé vistiéndola, el 8 de septiembre, casi a las 4:00 p. m. Mi madre estaba nerviosa y apurada como se pone ella, así que trabajé un poco más rápido de lo normal.
Primero, pedí perdón y permiso para vestirla, porque parece extraño que, cuando ella no quiere algo o se le ve la mala intención de la persona, el vestido no queda bien o siempre surge un inconveniente. Yo sé de lo que les hablo.
Ella quedó ¡Hermosa! No puedo describir en palabras lo emocionada que estuve al verla vestida cuál novia para recibir los halagos como madre de nuestro señor, para que la gente admirara su grandeza como mujer y ayudarnos a ser como ella, paciente y prudente, amando a su hijo siempre.
This year, it was my turn to organize the main celebration in my neighborhood. I told them that I went to look for the fabrics, and negative thoughts took hold of me that were not in line with my mother's devotion. She is coming out of a traumatic post-operative process, and in gratitude for her recovery, she took on the task of making the dress. She had it made exactly like the dress that the Virgin wore last year at the Cathedral of Barcelona. She knows the tailor in charge, and they got to work. Due to logistical reasons, I was supposed to dress her the day before, but I ended up dressing her on September 8th, almost at 4:00 p.m. My mother was nervous and in a hurry, as she tends to be, so I worked a bit faster than usual.
First, I asked for forgiveness and permission to dress her, because it seems strange that when she doesn't want something or senses bad intentions from a person, the dress doesn't turn out well, or some inconvenience always arises. I know what I'm talking about... She looked beautiful! I can't describe in words how excited I was to see her dressed like a bride, receiving compliments as the mother of our Lord, so that people could admire her greatness as a woman and help us to be like her, patient and prudent, always loving her son.
Una anécdota fue que cuando salió al altar que le improvisamos, una señora se acercó y dijo "¡Qué bella!, el vestido es idéntico al de la Catedral", así que se cumplió el cometido inicial, de hacer una réplica.
Por cuestiones del destino, la virgen está en mi hogar, y estoy convencida de que se quedará aquí por mucho tiempo, cosa que no me molesta; más bien, tenemos a la madre acompañándonos en todo momento y necesidad por la que estemos pasando.
Es una tradición que va más allá de lo religioso, si no que implica valores como la unión entre familia y vecinos, el respeto hacia los mayores, la colaboración de todos, cuidado y protección de algo valioso y el amor que nos une por nuestro señor. Lo importante es que a las nuevas generaciones, también se les está enseñando el modo de hacer sus fiestas para que no muera la tradición cuando los más grandes ya no estemos 😊.

What is important is that the new generations are also being taught how to celebrate their parties so that the tradition does not die out when the elders are no longer around 😊.
