Education is th best legacy

These days, people are beginning to refer to school as a scam, and if we are being real, sometimes it feels that way. You see people with degrees struggling to get jobs, while those without certificates end up being the ones employing them. Then you begin to ask yourself: what is the essence of getting degrees when there are no better offers for you, except that you know someone in power? It is becoming real! Personally, even though I am working in my field, I can’t say I’m satisfied. This is where I landed after trying to get a good job relatinh well to my field of study for years, but this is not really where I want to be. And that’s the same story for so many people out there, graduates just managing, doing something far from their dreams, simply because options are limited. However, getting a degree can not be underrated. ![IMG_20250303_133157_302.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/flourishandflora/Ep1XuCtnmTiSScbBLwh7yrshDdpiiRWpYkfy9y3MxMBvrujK9N7A1BoJdgT8e7aWcn4.jpg) One day, I met a commercial cab driver who shared his story with me. He suffered to send himself to school, worked hard, and graduated with good results. But after all the struggles, he couldn’t get a job. Life pushed him into becoming a commercial driver. Hmm, such is life. If you ask that person their school view, won’t they also say school is a scam? My bikeman who was into another bricklayer skill make a joke that his once payment is more than my salary for a whole one month, imagine him having 4-5 more of that🤔 I sat and felt bad on the part of my parents who never introduced a skill to us, it was bad o because we are seeing the result now when lots of graduates are roaming the street for job offers and at the end, very frustrating to settle for any job just for a living. So, is a degree still worth it in Nigeria? The answer depends on who you ask. But one thing is sure: the effort and resources put into it may simply not be worth it. My hubby wanted to pursue another master's degree, making it three already, and where he's working presently does not recognize that, so it is not a wasted effort. Sincerely, it is not worth it because efforts are not being recognized. Some people are doing well without having any degrees, even though it is necessary. The truth is, schools in Nigeria can do better. They can adopt more practical skills into learning instead of focusing only on theories from the primary level up to the last stage of education. That way, even if jobs are scarce, students will graduate with real skills they can use to survive and thrive. The system needs a change, a change in teaching and learning, enough of when X is 2, find Y🤣 So, regardless of what people say, we must understand that the education system is still relevant, and we need it in our daily activities, including what we're writing presently. Having skills are good but degrees cannot be underrated. The image is mine. This is my entry to the #hivelearners community contest, edition two on the topic: **Still worth it**
