Two days ago, I hosted a SpendHBD workshop at Happy Customer Supermarket and the result was awesome - 7 new friends joined Hive and they are currently learning how the platform works. This workshop was organized for the teachers at Destiny Child international schools and I was really happy that 7 of the teachers were present to learn about Hive and join the ecosystem.
Below are the usernames of the 7 new friends - @chiamakab, @ijamz, @sparklingpurity, @giftnk20, @flourish4real, @bekee, @princessng
Making them learn about Hive - and onboarding
This workshop was hosted on 1st October, 2025 at Happy Customer Supermarket. I made the presentation to all the teachers present. They were all already acquainted with web2 social media like Facebook, X and the rest. So I was able to help them understand the Hive opportunity and how Hive was different from legacy social media platforms. It was easy to help them see the difference and opportunities of freedom that Hive offered.
Once they had learned enough what Hive is and what SpemdHBD is trying to do, they were all happy to start off their journey. So I and the team showed them how to download Hive Keychain from the Playstore. Keychain has always been the first point of call for all Hive new users.
To help them get their Hive account, I used the spendhbd sign-up tool that requires paying 3 Hive to create all the accounts. They were all happy to have their accounts set up. Then I demonstrated how to scan with their device to pay with HBD, and then how to claim discounts using distriator system.
Before that though, they all checked in using the check-in app. This made it possible for each person to get their 2 HBD which was later used to shop at the supermarket. It was a thing of Joy for them to get the welcome gifts from distriator.
Each of the new friends bought groceries worth 2 HBD. They were happy to pick anything they liked. I also gave them branded Hive bags. You can see them picking up stuffs from the shelves. You can see them shopping from the image above. Everyone was really happy to spend their first HBD
After the presentation, shopping and claiming discounts, we took some pictures before they left. We had no lighting due to failure of the power generator. But then, we still took our pictures below:
Success despite technical issues
It wasn't entirely smooth-sailing on the day as some technical issues made things a bit hard. Our lighting system failed us. The power-generating set stopped 10 minutes into the presentation, making it difficult to have sufficient illumination. That didn't stop the presentation and onboarding. The check-in system also initially failed to send 2 HBD to each participant. But that was later resolved although only 5 of the new friends got their own.
For the shopping, they were only able to scan but not all claimed due to issues too with the cashback system.
But beyond some of the issues, it was a great workshop that brought in 7 new friends.
Moving forward
The new friends would return for another workshop on Saturday 4th and Monday 6th October 2025 for a follow up on their training. For the return, the aim is to get them to start creating content on Hive and also finish up claiming discounts.
I will introduce them to Waves short content app and other tools like Snaps. They will pick it up from there. Then they will start the journeyofanewbie courses to help them learn other things about Hive.
The training and support would be ongoing. So we will keep an eye on their progress. I appreciate the new friends that joined mad encourage them to do their best as they learn about Hive!
