Happy Monday, everyone! To all lovers of street art and those who find fulfillment through this medium, creating art, spreading culture, and disrupting the sociopolitical systems that invade us today, I bring you this well-known graffiti artist, whose alias was REPE.
REPE was a well-known and respected graffiti artist in the city of Caracas who left this world about 10 years ago. However, he became a legend in Venezuelan graffiti as he was one of the first graffiti artists and writers to create complex pieces, not because of the complexity of their design, but because of the difficult access to many of the places where he painted. Unfortunately, at this I don't have photographs of some of his other works, but if you walk around the city of Caracas, you can see some of these works in different places, and as I said before, they are works that must be more than 10 years old now.
However, some colleagues and friends from his old SDN crew keep his legacy alive by writing his name and creating graffiti with exactly the same letters and style, the characteristic style of vandal graffiti.
Today, I am sharing these posts with you to remind you that, in many cases, the purpose of our graffiti is to create a legacy and keep a culture alive. What better way to represent this today than with this friend, who has been gone for many years? Let's not forget that this young man died while painting graffiti when he fell from a high bridge. That is why his legacy has been highly respected by everyone who knows anything about Venezuelan graffiti.
