I would like to take you on a brief walk today. A walk that is especially important to me. Through the awakening of nature, when the world is still soundly sleeping, and the first rays of the sun are exploring the horizon.
As you can tell from the photographs, I was out and about early. More so than in the evening, I love early morning. There is a different energy in the air. It is so pure, so light and so freeing. When the sun is slowly creeping up and warming the soil with its golden light, it is like nature has taken a deep breath, and I breathe with it.
The stillness of the awakening morning, a gentle breeze flowing across the fields, first dew drops sparkling in the sun as it rises. I am trying to capture all of it with my camera. It is not even the photography that motivates me then, it is the feeling of being a part of something bigger. Tall cornfields, a single tree stand become a sentry above the fields, mighty oaks with a few acorns. Each of these moments tells its own story of growth, permanence and the never-ending cycle of renewal.
I find it interesting how many different feelings and atmospheres in the time between dark and light, I believe the transition at dawn has a completely different feel than the transition at dusk. At dawn everything appears fresh and uncorrupted and full of promise, you can actually feel that energy starting to blossom in the new day. It is a time to reflect, to pause and catch our breath before the everyday hustle and bustle unfolds. I gain a deep literal sense of grounding, and inner peace, while walking through the landscape. This time of day allows me to unplug from everyday life, as if to absorb the landscape's soul.
I also find the wide swath views people often have in the morning hours to be very picturesque. Such an expansive view of the fields and sometimes the silent wind turbines on the horizon, who seem to be the landscape's modern guardians, provide visual reminders that we are all connected, and the beauty of that continuum - nature, technology and people, is always intriguing to me.
