The pings, dings and little red circles with numbers on them.
Every app wanting my attention.
Every single person wanting and in a way demanding, an immediate response.
Always contactable.
All the time.
Let me tell you this is an unbelievably draining way to live.
Feeling like I’m constantly reacting to everyone else's schedule.
No time to just sit and be with my own thoughts.
It’s exhausting.
And, frankly, it did a real number on my mental health.
Going dark
So, I made a change.
I deleted all of the extra messenger apps I could.
I turned off all push notifications.
All of them.
And turned my phone onto "Do Not Disturb" by default.
Now my screen never lights up and never makes a sound.
I’m only contactable on my terms.
This is the key
The Calm
For me, this change has been incredible.
My brain feels quieter.
I feel calmer.
I check my messages when I want to, on my own time.
I'm no longer held hostage by my phone.
I'm in control.
This has seen a massive improvement in my mental health.
It’s amazing what happens when you quiet the noise.
Best of probabilities to you.
Dane.
