Reviewing Zypto Pay

Right...

Recently (like two weeks ago, I think), I found Zypto via @web3creative posts and decided to give it a try once I understood that they were allowing me to import a Hive account into their app (in this case, I have tested only the iPhone one, but will eventually do the Android too).

And please, take all this with the usual "grain of salt" or "it might still be a work in progress", because these things might have bugs and/or work differently depending on when you are reading this in the future or testing the app. But the important part is to learn and share here, so others may learn or try/curate, etc.

(If you want to know more about Zypto as a company, I would highly recommend you search on an AI engine or two, or Google will tell you relatively most of what you might need to know.)

First things, First! Yes, it has referrals...

There is also a rewards system (basically similar to Crypto.com one if you already have experience with that one), that rewards you with some cashback and others by using the app to swap things around. Feel free to explore that... I am going to be honest, I didn't pay too much attention to it.

My aim was two-fold, test the Hive integration and check how much it would cost to move in/out some crypto into/from Hive. Given this part was advertised (and now confirmed) as not needing KYC. And it's true! πŸ€‘πŸ’“πŸ’– (but take it with a grain of salt, we will get there)

Importing the Hive account...

This part was a bit tricky in the beginning, as I was not finding where exactly in the app to do that, until I saw the BIG RED option literally rolling in front of my eyes.

(This was not visible when I first installed and used the app)

Then I went trying to import my @forky.zypto hive account... to which I have explicitly created for this. And why? Well, for once I like to separate my "testing" and secondly, they ask for your master password, hence I highly advise you to use a separate account just for this. Which is what I did...

But then, once I was importing - linking the Hive account (which is not the same account as in the app Zypto that you initially create when doing the account setup) to the Zypto account you already have there, the master password didn't work and said something like "invalid account".

Because I wanted to be sure, and these things are already something I am used to dealing with, I thought... hummm maybe they want a "master password" in the form of a seed password? So, I recalled @khaleelkazi is already proving accounts with master passwords in this format... 😏

Hence, that was a quick, easy test... stop by #inleo app, and just create a new account with @leo.voter. I have done so and created @forky.wallet... and then once linking...

It WORKED!

I hope they eventually fix this, because in reality, they don't need to use or fix the format of the master password to a seed phrase. Some people like it, some don't. I personally don't really give a damn, as long as it is consistent with what the app advertises (and in this case, is a master password or a seed phrase).

The 200 HIVE you see in the picture were actually on Hive when I took this screenshot. You can check all the transactions I made at @forky.wallet - https://peakd.com/@forky.wallet/wallet

And the ones that the app did with the "master password", which gives them access to the "Active Private Key" are the transfers to @bdhivesteem account (which is the well-known Binance Exchange).

The response time of the app is pretty good (in terms of checking the account data on the Hive blockchain), so they did a great job on that part at least. It's basically almost instant... so they must have for sure a node behind the scenes where they read this and then provide an API for their own app. I can't confirm this, but it would be very weird for them to trust others as they will need to check things like, "do you have the amount you say you have", etc...

Anyhow, it looked nice to see this. A very positive critique in my view.

Then I went testing how much it costs to swap HIVE to others... and how much you lose (yes, you always lose via these ways). And being on Hive, you sometimes even feel offended to pay such high rates.

HBD had no swap routes (unfortunate). Maybe soon...? unsure...

Overall conversion fee

So, I have tested a couple of them, and the best one is still Polygon, Arbitrum is not bad too, along with similar ones... but then that's it... for the around ~4% fee, this is not BAD!

And I think depending on your Zypto Points Hub thing level, you get some cashback perks (from cross-chain swaps and others), but haven't figured out if in ZYPTO tokens or if you will have some other way to redeem them.

I have also tested sending or receiving from other places, and it takes the usual "other chains" time, plus a little bit more because they have to make sure there are enough confirmations. It's incredible how Hive looks vs others in this space... as the Hive "updates" on the app is literally MEGA INSTANTENOUS FAST, which is going to become something providers integrating with Hive will start to notice and their customers, ENJOY!

Other chains are still trying to catch up in this space... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

And I have also tested re-importing the wallet (doing a reset thing... because I want to be sure it's reproducible. And it was... and you will also (if you delete everything on the app) need to re-link your Hive account.

There was no option to "un-link" the Hive account, but if you delete the associated Zypto imported wallet, you can re-import it, and re-link a new Hive account (in case you want to swap Hive accounts).

Right, Until here is KYC-free

With the exception of "Pre-paid" cards (those are NO ID required, but you still have to accept the T&Cs), then, if you want to order "plastic card" (sounds so wrong vs Crypto.com LOL) or use a virtual VISA card, you will need to KYC.

I did go through mine to understand how the experience works... had to provide the usual ID (they accept multiple) and in a matter of minutes it was approved.

Note: I did this process via the https://dash.zypto.com interface and not on the phone because I wanted to be sure I could do it without any interaction with the app, and you can!

They provide two methods for ordering the physical card (which is what I did), via any "in-app balance you may have" (I had none on the web app, but you can link your app on your phone and transfer things into it, but I didn't try this), and the option to pay via external crypto payment. You can use ANY account... apparently. And pay in many forms of crypto (except HIVE πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ), so to minimise fees again, I used USDC via the Polygon network.

Took a good 15 minutes to verify. But eventually, I got a confirmation. I did this during the weekend... still waiting for a card to be assigned. These usually take a couple of days, so no big deal...

Cost?

  • 110 USD if you use external crypto (like I did), where 50 is for issuing, 10 is for activating, and the remaining 50 stays on the card.
  • 100 USD if you use your balance, where you don't have to pay for the activation fee, 50 is for the issuing, and 50 stays on the card.

You can then load the card with the app if you wish... and I will post about that experience once I get it.

That's it...

Let's see if I can bring it to @hifevest in Kuala Lumpur this year (maybe there is also another card that might get announced??? you might have seen some stuff around... maybe it's going to be another surprise? - hope so!!!) πŸ˜πŸ€”

Let me know if you end up trying it. Even if just the importing-linking of the Hive account. I will keep an eye out for updates if I find any great ones.

The Nuts part about this for me is not the "cheapness"... it's the fact that Hive standing next to other cryptos in an app like this, completely kills in performance!!! It's like... jaws down!

So, yeah, make some noise if you can... they win some, yes. But we win even more! πŸ˜‰

😊 Forkyouβ„’ in the next one πŸ˜‰
