Chilly Photos from Rural Minnesota

Hello Hive!

Busy season at work is in full swing, but I managed to get out for a little photography after work and over the weekend.

This first photo is of the Oliver Schoolhouse, built in 1888. Most wooden structures in this area don't stand the test of time. Frigid winters and hot, humad summers can do a lot of damage. Taking a close look at this building, one wonders how much of the original building is actually left. The roof, siding, and windows don't look to be 1888 originals. Still, it's a curious, lonely building in the middle of the plains.

Winter tends to be long, cold, and bleak in Minnesota. I try to get out and take photos anyway, but sometimes it's just easier to watch a show online or try to work through a few pieces on the guitar in the warmth of my little apartment, instead.

Here is a photo from one of those cold evenings where I made the trip out beyond the city limits. There were no tractors this evening.

We had a surprising heat wave come through today, melting a lot of the snow and leaving stripes in the fields. It didn't last long and a winter storm is expected to roll in tonight, but it was a delightful respite. Here is an image of a local farm from this evening.

On another note...

I don't usually do selfies, but here's one. The light was streaming in through my window and presented an interesting composition. It would probably even fit in with the Shadow Hunter contest that @melinda010100 runs.

One need not always venture out in the cold for a photo.

On a happy note, I sold my old EF lenses today and used the proceeds to purchase a Canon EOS R6 body. It will have lower resolution than my current camera does, but be much better in low light and the auto-focus is supposed to be much, much better. The camera shop said that it should arrive in about two weeks. B&H or Amazon would have been faster, but I support local camera stores when I can.
