Is it just me?

I spent the whole day looking at that view.

Lovely, isn't it?

Or is it just me, being nostalgic?

After several months away from our farm, a day in a scenery very similar to Crete, was the best way to welcome May and reconnect with nature. Let alone that it was with good company and a comfortable sofa, right in the middle of an olive grove!

We were invited by some friends to spend the day with them in the property that they recently bought, near Nafplio. It is an olive grove with well established olive trees but our friends have plans to enrich it with many more trees and they have already planted a few of them!

Mulberries, figs, citrus trees and pomegranates, are the first that I noticed, as I was walking around with my camera in hand, capturing the vibe of the land.

The olive trees are of course the protagonists of the plot. They are in full bloom right now and if you look very closely you can see the first tiny olives already formed inside the flowers. May is a crucial month for next winter's harvest and hopefully we won't have any more crazy south winds and the fruit making will be completed without major losses.

The oregano, on the other hand is ready to be harvested. If only we had one rain to clean the plants from the dessert dust of the previous weeks, it would have been great!

But even without that, the time for the harvest has come. In the pics below you can see a bunch on the perfect stage, on the right and a bunch that has bloomed and it is already late to be harvested, on the left.

Then it is the vegetable garden just starting. It is very small but I know first hand that the satisfaction of eating your own vegetables has nothing to do with the quantities you produce. Even a handful of cherry tomatoes and a couple of peppers are enough to put a smile on the face of every gardener :)

Marcos (the dog) is wondering, for one more time, why I spend so much time in front of every tree instead of running around with him as fast as I can!

But there are so many things that I want to photograph, from the fruit trees till the humblest weed that is enjoying the sunshine and its luck to get away from the destructive rage of the grass trimmer :)

Although I still don't have a garden of my own, this was my response to the May Garden Journal Challenge of the C/HiveGarden.
