My first 100 kilometer ride in 2025
After some days with a lot of rain we're having quite a good weekend now. That is why my cycling mates and I went for another cycling trip on Saturday. I wasn't able to go with them for two weeks because of other planned activities, but this week I could join them. At first we wouldn't go that far because of the guys had some more things to do, but we ended up doing a ride of just over 100 kilometer. And that is actually my longest ride this year. And it actually felt quite good too. After my injury back in February I was slowly building up my kilometers again and tested my fitness and strength during my holiday rides in France. We rode all the way south along the Dutch coastline and ended in Hoek van Holland. At that point the Meuse river ends up in the North Sea. In the river there is a huge flood barrier (Maeslantkering) that consist of two giant arms that can shut off the entire river during storms. It was built in 1997 and is yearly being tested.
Check the following wikipedia for more info on this amazing structure.

This is how it looks when the arms are closed.
Anyways, we had a nice ride with a small climb near the Maeslantkering. It took us more than three hours, but the weather was perfect.
2025 Goal!
As you might remember when you have been following my earlier cycling updates, I've set myself a goal for 2025 to motivate me to go cycling. It isn't that hard to get motivated when the weather is like today, but autumn and also winter are coming and cycling in the cold and rain are less attractive.
My goal for 2025 was set to 5000 kilometers. That's almost 100 kilometers a week. I already managed to make them in the single ride today. And besides that I had three days of commuting to the office as well, resulting in 200+ kilometers to add to my total.
And look what happened here! For the first time this year I am ahead of the schedule! The red and blue line did a crossover! Even despite my ling injury (see week 7-14) I managed to get back on track.
I have made 3472 kilometer so far this year and still have 1528 kilometers to go. That's 'only' 15 of todays rides 😂. But as I mentioned earlier in this blog; the days with cold and bad weather are yet to come. And although I tend to commute when it is cold, windy or there is a chance of rain (I can take a shower at work), we don't go cycling in the weekends when it rains.
But the graph looks promising. It gives me even more motivation to reach my goal this year!
Do you also track your stats? Of have you also made a nice ride this weekend or earlier this week? Please share it with us in the Cycling Community!
