Between A Beautiful Big House And A Smaller House LOH Contest #255

When I first read this week's prompt, I was tempted by the option of a cheap beautiful big house. Yes, remodeling it to my taste can be fun and sound adventurous, but then I remembered what I always tell my husband: >You've earned the money to buy a house, and you have two options. The first is a big, beautiful house, but one whose best years are behind it. It needs a lot of repairs and remodeling, and therefore its price is low. The second option is a small house. It's not as beautiful as the previous one, but you don't have to invest time or money in repairs so its price is much higher than the previous one. What do you choose? Are you on the "repair to my liking" team or the "buy everything ready and fast" team?  "Buying cheap things doesn't necessarily mean the item is cheap in the real sense of it." A memory of a certain time I bought a used phone comes to mind, a phone I bought for just 10% less than the actual cost of its new brand, which ended up giving me a lot of problems. At the end of the day it turned out to be a bad deal, and I still had to source another fund to get a brand-new phone. That experience taught me that buying cheap doesn't necessarily mean a great deal. Yes, I have had a great deal of experience buying used items in the past, but when it comes to a house, I have no experience in such a scenario, and I wouldn't want to take chances finding out. Besides I have no skills when it comes to house repairs and all that. If I want a big house and I have the money, I'd rather build mine from the start instead of remodeling. Remodeling a big house to taste in the current economy, which is highly inflated, can be a lot more than I bargained for in terms of cost, aside from other challenges. Especially if most of the material used by the original builder isn't up to a good standard. I have seen someone continue to spend in various parts of her house due to the kind of material used initially. At some point, she got tired of doing repairs and had to sell the house off. I can't imagine myself buying such house even though it looks so beautiful at the outside. If I'm building a house from scratch, I can be in charge of everything and choose the best quality materials as much as possible. Considering the cost, stress, time, and effort one would have to put into renovating a big house, I think I would join team buy a small, portable, and ready-to-use house where all I need to do is move in without thinking of additional remodeling. Even if it's more expensive, at least I know, what I see is what I get. Not going for the big house and remodeling it does not have everything to do with the monetary aspect, though I admire big houses and respect those who owned and maintain them, but for me, I prefer a portable house without too much additional space, so keeping everywhere tidy won't take too much of my time and effort. Have you seen the work involved in keeping a big house tidy on a daily basis? The sweeping, the mopping, and everything in between—I do not think I'm cut out for all the energy involved, and I love my home clean and tidy all the time, so I would choose a smaller house.  This option will not only save me remodeling costs, for which I can't tell how much I would have to spend from the start, but it will also save my time and energy not just during renovations but even during my daily living in the home with my family. As a smaller house means less time used in keeping my home tidy.
