Blooming by the Wayside

While I was on my way home from work, I noticed some lush plants along the roadside, their flowers in full bloom. I was impressed by the evenness of their growth on all sides. I soon realized they were being cared for and regularly trimmed, which explained why they looked so beautiful. I’m quite certain a gardener is tending to them, which is why they appear so healthy.

The best way to appreciate sights like this is to take photos and create something beautiful from them.

My usual workflow is to photograph the subjects using the default settings on my camera. I like to get up close to the flowers so I can capture as much detail as possible—it’s their most striking feature, and I want to highlight it as much as I can.

After taking the photos, I edit them on my phone using a specific black-and-white filter that usually works well with most of my shots. However, in this case, the result lacked a bit of contrast, so I made additional adjustments to the exposure and contrast. I reduced the brightness in the highlights while deepening the shadows to improve the overall contrast of the image.

Moments like these remind me that beauty often hides in the most ordinary places, waiting for someone to notice. A simple walk home became a quiet celebration of nature’s care and resilience. Through my lens, I get to preserve that beauty and share it with others, one photo at a time.
