Hello Hive, I have said this before, but the moment I saw Shiva freezing the battlefield on FFVIII, it was love at first sight. Since then, I have tried to play every Final Fantasy title available. The concept of summoning was highly appealing to me. I played FFVII to VX, but there are two gaps in between: the online titles for this franchise. FFXI was the first online game launched by Square Soft, which later became Square Enix. The company then reissued the title as Final Fantasy XIV in 2014. Since then, the game has had 5 expansions, one every two years, accumulating content and entertainment in this wide fantasy world.

Why is Final Fantasy XIV a wish?
In the beginning, I invested a lot of time getting to know this title during its making process and familiarizing myself with races and classes. I loved the additions of Vieras, a bunny-like race that dwells in the forest and is connected with the "green word". Through other small titles, I connected with some characters in the franchise, Y'shtola being my favorite. This universe has permeated other titles, including mobile games like Dissidia, Brave Exvius, and War of the Visions.

The immense story accumulation is another great reason. expansions are varied and go from Dragoons, pirates, the distant east, and more. It offers a great variety. Another good point here is the longevity of the game; the economic model has survived a decade, so by now, it has a solid player base that one could use as an advantage for knowledge and aid during dungeons. All that time also means a lot of content available on the internet: guides, walkthroughs, tricks, etc. It is a massive amount of information to digest, yes, but at least it is a click away from you.

My most wanted feature is a war between guilds in which Primals are summoned. In this game, those divine entities destroy entire battlefields. The game even issues a warning of areas in which they are summoned. It feels just like a massive ancient war. Of course, the community is another great reason. Making online friends and playing challenges together is bonding and enjoyable.

>Mi característica más deseada es la guerra entre gremios en la que se invocan Primigenios. En este juego, estas entidades divinas destruyen campos de batalla enteros. El juego incluso avisa de las zonas donde se invocan. Se siente como una enorme guerra ancestral. Por supuesto, la comunidad es otra gran razón. Why haven't I played this title?
There are a couple of reasons. The first one is the PC requirements. We are talking about a game that is eleven years old. At first, its requirements were not so demanding, so current PC capacities should suffice. The big but here is expansion content. As they released expansions to this universe, the game started to ask for more. Current minimum requirements leave me out on almost everything except for RAM. At least you have to have a graphics card with 4 GB of RAM and a good i7 processor. Recommended requirements ask for more, of course.

A second and more important reason is the longevity of this title. We all know MMOs are favored by a good start, and an 11-year-old game needs a lot of work. Catching up with older players could be impossible. Most games offer some countermeasures for this issue, but I haven't played one in which this really alleviates the gap between regular players and newcomers. My main reason for playing it would be the main story through all expansions, but that could also require some progress in your account.

Ponerse al día con los jugadores más veteranos podría ser imposible. La mayoría de los juegos ofrecen soluciones para este problema, pero no he jugado ninguno en el que esto realmente reduzca la brecha entre los jugadores habituales y los recién llegados. Mi principal razón para jugarlo sería la historia principal a lo largo de todas las expansiones, pero eso también podría requerir algo de progreso en la cuenta.
Lastly, I think pricing is a smaller barrier. The complete game on Steam at present costs around 45$. You have to make a monthly payment to have the chance to create and maintain some characters per server. This goes around 15$. I do find it a little bit expensive in the long run (180$), especially if you don't play daily. It would certainly give the feeling of missing out and wasting money.
By now, I think and hope Square Enix works on a new online project. That would depend on how profitable the current FFXIV is, yet we might see another update or reissue similar to FFXI. That fresh start with an already big community of fans could be a great experience indded. Meanwhile, I could evaluate my possibilities to enter that new world. We'll see.
