As cryptoart has evolved it's became evident that in the space there are characters posing as freedom fighters, helpers and art lovers only to subtly reveal that they are actually just out for power and control.
This was expected from the beginning, anything that rebels see's spies try to infiltrate from those in control. The art side of NFT's is particularly bad for this as the art industry has always been highly consolidated and closed. The World art markets entire revenue is around $60 billion, sounds like a lot of money however in contrast just the tomato market alone for consumption is $180 billon. And around 85% of that $60 billion is private art sales and auction houses... translation - rich people buying history, tax harvesting and money laundering.
An interesting development in cryptoart & nfts has seen that people who want to be anonymous and are wealthy usually buy and wear a cryptopunk. While that seems innocent many also tend to act and speak in a certain way, one of promotion for the space but oddly everything they say tends to demand less and less freedom of creators. On my travels to cryptoart events I met a few of these cryptopunk wearing influencers posing as collectors and fount that infact they're not some cool dude in a hoodie looking to change the World... infact the opposite, they tend to be 40-50 year old men in suits, usually from banking, lawyer or 'art associates'... I think thats code for art agent not wanting to reveal they're an art agent for a specific few artists they want to succeed.
So that is why artist's don't like cryptopunks, rightfully so, the mentality of someone wearing a cryptopunk is that of Agent Smith from The Matrix.
