Welcome to a new recipe: “If life gives you mamones, you've mamonada
***
Hello hello beautiful people of HIVE, greetings to the most creative community in the kitchen. 💕👩🍳 Today I come to share with you a recipe that I had many years without making: Dulce de mamón.

I don't know if anyone has ever made this sweet, I guess so, but the first time I made it was by my own invention, as a child, in 1996 or 97 approximately (cédula al piso) when I was about 9 or 10 years old, when I went on vacation with my grandmother to my beloved hometown Maracay, where I cultivated since I was a child my love for cooking, especially for sweets.
The idea of making mamon candy was born because a neighbor of my grandmother had a mamon tree whose mamons were quite sour, so I was very inventive since I was a little girl, so I thought of making them into candy and it was something that everyone liked very much at that time, it was something I did quite often on my vacations.
This time I dusted off this recipe, which I had more than 20 years without making, without exaggerating, because since 2004 those vacations in Maracay were over, my grandmother got a little sick, she could no longer live alone and came to live in the east with her children (my uncles and dad) then I went on vacation to where my uncles in Pto. Ordaz there lived an aunt who also loves to cook and my love for this continued to grow, for us the kitchen is a delicious way to pamper and give love to our loved ones, she currently lives outside the country and we still share recipes and cooking experiences via virtual, it is a very nice link I have with her, she taught me how to make jellies.

The reason why after so many years I came up with this recipe is because on Thursday a mamon tree fell in front of my house, thank God it did not cause serious damage but the tree had a good load of mamons, all the neighbors harvested good quantities, they took bags and bags full of mamon, the mamons from this fallen tree were super sweet.
If I'm honest, I always try to look for a way out of every situation no matter how bad it seems, it's something natural in me, my boyfriend tells me that I'm “toxic positive” because sometimes I'm too positive, but the truth is that I've learned that from “almost” every situation no matter how bad it seems you can get good things or even learning, if we can see beyond the problems, if life gives you mamones, do mamonada hehehehe or in this case sweet mamonada 😜.

Without further ado, the recipe is quite simple, and the result is delicious. **The materials I used were:**
* Mamones (almost 1kg)
* Sugar 150 grs.
* 70 grs. of papelón.
* A little bit of sweet cloves (3grs).
* 2 cups of water.

The first thing I did of course was to wash the mamones well, I put them to soak, twice I changed the water, and then I washed them about 3 by 3, if I did it one by one I felt I would spend an eternity washing mamones, and as I was going to use only the inside I felt I didn't need so much dedication, after having washed them, I peeled them and put the peeled mamones in a pot. The pot I used to make the candy was one of those thick ones, here we call them “caldero”, these are ideal to prevent the candy from burning.

After I had all the mamones in the pot, I added all the ingredients and cooked for about 30 minutes.

I cooked all this over medium/high heat until I saw that the syrup became a little thick. At this point I turned off the heat and waited for it to cool before tasting.

This candy is super simple to prepare, so much so that imagine a 9 year old girl making it in the times when there were no social networks giving us culinary ideas hehehe when I prepared it as a child everyone liked it, I remember my grandmother proudly sharing my creation with her friends who visited her, I think that kind of gestures, those compliments I received for my preparations pushed me to continue making inventions in the kitchen every time I could and today here I still love cooking.
This time it was no exception, everyone at home liked it, the syrup has a delicious flavor, the only bad thing is that it yields little hehehehe the truth is that I did not want to do much either because at home there are two of us who try to take care of ourselves a little with sugar so it is better not to submit to such temptation.

I hope you liked this simple and delicious preparation, with a fruit that is quite common on this side of the world 🌎 sorry if I got inspired by telling stories, I had years with this recipe abandoned and it stirred very sweet memories 💕 thank you very much for reading me see you in a next post, many blessings and a sweet hug for everyone.

P.S.: here's a little picture of me as a little girl eating the syrup that stuck to the pot last night 🤤 it was too delicious 🤤 👇 I left the pot clean hehehehe.
