Hi Hive friends! I am back to share a truly magical Hong Kong moment with you.
This past October 7th, the Mid-Autumn Festival was celebrated here in Hong Kong, a major holiday. The festivities included the legendary Fire Dragon Dance, a tradition that is now in its 146th year!
What makes this so special is that in all my 14 years of working in Hong Kong, this was my very first time seeing it! And the best part? I stumbled upon it almost by accident.
Since it was a public holiday, all OFWs like me had the day off. I decided to take a "me-day" and around 5 PM, I headed down to Tin Hau to see the lantern displays at Victoria Park. My plan was simple: see the lanterns, take a walk, and treat myself to some mooncake ice cream—a must-try twist on the traditional festival snack.
But when I arrived, I found a huge crowd of people waiting, with their cameras prepared. I thought, "Could this be for the Fire Dragon show?" Sure enough, it was! I ended up joining the crowd and waiting for an hour and a half until the show finally began at 7:30 PM.
It was absolutely worth the wait! The energy felt incredible. I also managed to film much of the spectacle, so be sure to follow my next post for the video. For now, please enjoy my photos and selfies!
Thank you, as always, for your warm support, my Hive Family!
