With all the excitement in my life, I find that some areas have been sorely neglected (Yes, my poor friends and readers, this blog included). So now, on top of sorting through and organizing 26 years of stuff and things in preparation to move, I am also trying to play catchup on homesteading stuff along with trying to develop some sort of regular posting schedule again.
It's hard to do that when one is either on the road or doing more chores than a ADHD-addled flibbertigibbet.
But, I am stubborn, I shall persevere! (Or at least implement some sort of process that halfway works!)
My goal is to get back to posting every other day or so like I mostly always have for the last almost nine years, I miss you all when I am not here tapping out missives about all the things.
But enough of that, I have homesteading chores to write about.
Since we had some early unseemly heat, all 1000 of my garlic scapes decided to make an appearance at once. So last Tuesday afternoon I cut them all in a very toasty, humid setting.
Now, here I am a few days and a trip up to and back from my new place in the wilderness later, facing bags of scapes in the fridge.
So, I am going to make garlic scape pesto today, freeze it in cubes, and then I will have it for all sorts of nummy dishes!
I would dehydrate some and powder them too, but the comfrey is also ready, so the dehydrator will be occupied(I still might dehydrate some scapes for powder, the comfrey doesn't take long). I need the comfrey for my annual Christmas salve gifts. Plus, it's comfrey, it's useful.
And then, the rhubarb.
The rhubarb has been so lush this year! I gave half my crop to a young family that came over and helped me hill the potatoes last week. I shudder when I think of families grocery bills these days. I am also going to give them most of the potato crop as the hubs and I won't be eating as much with our brood grown and out in the world instead of in our fridge.
So, after I finish this post, I have to tackle the mountain of homestead bounty that is currently drying on my counter. The rhubarb I will chop, bag, and freeze. Some will be for pies and such, and a large amount of it will go to rhubarb wine making. The hub's rhubarb wine that he made this past year was shared at the boy's graduation party, five gallons of it was drank, so apparently it was more than tasty.
It's awfully quiet around here at the moment, the hubs and the Corg are up at our new home getting settled in and normalizing their routines. We've got quite an adventure in front of us.
Which is why I am going to keep this missive fairly limited in composition. After I sort the produce and herbs, I have to continue working on going through all the papers in my office. Yesterday, found a stash of medical statements and VA appointment letters, from 2002. Yep, I have my work cut out for me lol!
