Hello my dear Hivers, the contribution to this great community, regarding this initiative that seeks to make us aware of the urgent need we all have to safeguard our home, the planet earth. If you have someone very close to you who likes the study of computer programming, help them and motivate them to go ahead, since they will use big data and artificial intelligence (AI) that will give them tools to collaborate with research and obtain new knowledge that will help us improve our environmental quality of life.
Hola mis apreciados Hivers, el aporte para con esta grandiosa comunidad, respecto a esta iniciativa que busca que tomemos conciencia de la necesidad urgente que tenemos todos de salvaguardar nuestro hogar, el planeta tierra. Si tienes a alguien muy cercano que le guste el estudio de la programación de computadoras, ayúdalo y motívalo a seguir adelante, ya que ellos utilizarán big data e inteligencia artificial (IA) que les otorgarán herramientas para colaborar con la investigación y obtención de nuevos conocimientos que nos ayuden a mejorar nuestra calidad de vida ambiental.
One of the ways to find solutions to difficult problems is through the tools that data science is giving us. Many people in laboratories are using artificial intelligence and big data to provide important data for companies, governments and society in general, in terms of providing solutions to difficulties that we thought we could not overcome, and one of them is to keep the earth healthy.

I agree that the resources provided by digitalization are not the magic solution to everything, but data science is taking giant steps together with artificial intelligence, for the realization of global environmental projects, starting from small local monitoring to the creation of links with people and their environment. All of this accelerated during the confinement by the Covid 19 pandemic.

Next, I want to show three projects where data science can provide valuable information to curb the deterioration of our planet:
A continuación, quiero mostrar tres proyectos en que la ciencia de datos puede aportar información valiosa para frenar el deterioro de nuestro planeta:
#1. Digital twin of the Earth.
it To begin with, a "digital twin" is a virtual copy, in this case, of Earth's land, water, air and life. In the following video I want to show how this interesting concept would work in the company Sacyr, who in collaboration with the startup Talent Swarm, are creating models of digital twins to optimize the management of their industrial water plants.
#1. Gemelo Digital de la Tierra.
Para empezar, un “gemelo digital” es una copia virtual, en este caso, de la tierra, el agua, el aire y la vida de la Tierra. En el siguiente video quiero mostrar cómo funcionaría este concepto interesante en la empresa Sacyr, quienes en colaboración con la startup Talent Swarm, se encuentran creando modelos de gemelos digitales para optimizar la gestión de sus plantas industriales de agua.
The digital twins will be able to predict natural disasters (hurricanes, tsunamis, volcano eruptions, among others) well in advance, as well as unexpected weather events (shifting land plates, storms, avalanches, among others), with some degree of accuracy as this model will be able to collect data in real time.
Los gemelos digitales podrán predecir desastres naturales (huracanes, tsunamis, erupciones de volcanes, entre otros) con mucho tiempo de anticipación, al igual que eventos climáticos inesperados (desplazamiento de placas terrestres, tormentas, avalanchas, entre otros), con cierto grado de exactitud ya que este modelo podrá recopilar datos en tiempo real.
Can you imagine what we could achieve if we made digital twins of all environmental subsystems? Well, the European Union has become aware of this and is supporting the "Destination Earth" initiative, also known as "DestinE", which uses big data and artificial intelligence models to simulate the behavior of nature and human life, and thus contribute to improving the global health of the environment.
¿Se pueden imaginar lo que podríamos lograr si hiciéramos gemelos digitales de todos los subsistemas ambientales? Pues, la Unión Europea ha tomado conciencia de ello y se encuentra apoyando la iniciativa “Destination Earth”, también conocida como “DestinE”, quien utiliza modelos de big data e inteligencia artificial para simular el comportamiento de la naturaleza y la vida humana, y así contribuir a mejorar la salud global del ambiente.
DestinE is expected to be implemented in approximately 7 years. This project is quite ambitious and seeks to provide its users, scientists and governments with the necessary tools to measure the different possible scenarios and thus provide environmental solutions for sustainable development.
Se tiene estimado que DestinE se implemente dentro de aproximadamente 7 años. Este proyecto es bastante ambicioso y busca otorgar a sus usuarios, científicos y a los gobiernos las herramientas necesarias para medir los distintos escenarios posibles y de esta manera aportar soluciones ambientales de desarrollo sostenible.
#2: Globalization of NASA data.
It is estimated that soon the images of the planet that NASA collects will reach 100 pentabytes (where 1 pentabyte is equivalent to 1,000,000,000 gigabytes), with this data ecosystem the NCCS, NASA's Climate Simulation Center, is organizing all this information to generate information of great value in terms of environment.
#2: Globalización de datos de la NASA.
Se estima que próximamente las imágenes de estudio del planeta que recopila la NASA, lleguen a 100 pentabytes, donde 1 pentabyte es equivalente a 1.000.000 de gigabytes), con este ecosistema de datos la NCCS, siglas de Centro de Simulación Climática de la NASA, está organizando toda esta información para generar información de mucho valor en cuanto a materia de ambiente.
All this is being achieved with the use of machine learning, big data and artificial intelligence and thus making better structured data available to experts to help make the best decisions and motivate scientific research. The NCSS has posted online a video quite illustrative, how to use the Geographic Information System (GIS) portal and how to use it to enter and generate APPs that help prevent natural disasters and take preventive measures. Todo ello se está logrando con el uso del aprendizaje automático, big data e inteligencia artificial y de esta manera poner a disposición de los expertos datos mejor estructurados que ayuden a tomar las mejores decisiones y motivar a la investigación científica. La NCSS ha colocado en línea un video bastante ilustrativo, de cómo usar el portal del Sistema de Información Geográfica (GIS) y cómo usarlo para ingresar y generar APPs que ayuden a prevenir desastres naturales y tomar medidas preventivas. #3: Using AI for ocean cleanup.
The last of the projects using artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to address climate change, water, agriculture and biodiversity is "AI for Earth" from technology company Microsoft.

El último de los proyectos que utiliza las tecnologías de inteligencia artificial y machine learning para afrontar el cambio climático, el agua, la agricultura y la biodiversidad es “AI for Earth” de la empresa tecnológica Microsoft.
Within this range of proposed solutions is the "Ocean Cleanup" initiative, which has as its main goal the elimination of polluting plastic materials from the oceans.
Dentro de esta gama de propuestas de solución se encuentra la iniciativa “Ocean Cleanup”, que tiene como meta principal la eliminación de los materiales plásticos contaminantes de los océanos.
Through the identification of plastic waste by means of millions of photographs, Ocean Cleanup makes use of artificial intelligence for the process of identification and automated collection that can store this waste that threatens life on the planet.
A través de la identificación de desechos plásticos mediante millones de fotografías, Ocean Cleanup hace uso de la Inteligencia artificial para el proceso de identificación y recolección automatizada que pueda almacenar estos desechos que amenazan a la vida en el planeta.

Humanity has all the tools to correct the mistakes made over many years, we have enough intelligence to seek solutions before it is too late for our planet. One of the immediate answers lies with data scientists, who can collaborate to safeguard the earth and our health.
