I went from braiding my hair to maintaining a low cut.
Three months after childbirth I made a very neat cornrow which I carried for 3 weeks. On loosening the cornrows I discovered my front hairlines were falling off. I couldn't comb the hair without applying leave-in conditioner to soften it and ease combing. After combing, the amount of hair that came out was quite much. At first I thought it was the hairdresser's lack of competence even though she has been my stylist for a while. I changed to another hairdresser just to confirm that it wasn't her fault but it was getting even worse.

I was gradually becoming bald and whenever I make my hair, especially when I make braids, the hair doesn't last long. Normally, my braids last for two months or more before unbraiding. But after childbirth I couldn't hold braids or cornrows for a week, in fact I could do my hair today and by tomorrow it's looking like I did it a week ago. I have changed hairdressers because I was feeling like they do not know how to take care of my hair but they weren't the issue. Due to the constant hair breakage I had tiny hairs beneath the longer one and they were so soft and silky that they could not hold or fit into braids or cornrows.

|This braid cost me twelve thousand naira and it lasted for only eleven days||
This cost me my time, energy and money. I would sit for hours to make my hair and pay fifteen thousand naira or more but never enjoyed it. I wasn't a scarf person but I had to use it when going out on an occasion. I don't like wigs and they don't fit me even when I tried using them because they always save the day when there is a pressing need for it. I was left with two options: “cut or not to cut”. If I cut the hair it would be easy to style and maintain it by myself but our culture prohibits a woman from shaving off her hair while her husband is still alive, it is said to be a bad omen.

After a long deliberation, I pleaded with my husband, stating my reasons for trimming the hair, plus I was craving a new look of confidence. I showed him the amount of hair that comes out whenever I do the hair or gently pull it. I no longer feel comfortable with it, it was stealing my joy and confidence. Continuing braiding and cornrows was incurring an unnecessary waste of money, time and energy for me and that makes me sad. So he agreed but insisted that it must be all shaved, in fact he went ahead to sort out a style that would fit me and he made sure I was okay with whatever style I chose from his research and that was how I ended up looking pretty, stylish, comfortable and happy at a fair cost.
This new look so much aligns with my minimalist lifestyle, LESS TIME, LESS MONEY, LESS STRESS and MORE JOY. It is SIMPLE and STYLISH.
Give me your honest review, what do you think about my new look?
